CAC - Dark Sun - Tyr - Session 4

We discuss a bit about skills and we decide on the following:

  • For a basic challenge, everyone not trained, rolls. Those trained don't have to roll.
  • For a tough challenge, everyone rolls. Those trained get a bonus to the roll.
  • For an extreme challenge, only those trained get to roll

 

Dro'van overhears some guards, near the theatre, complaining about the increased quota for slaves. He then runs back to the house and tells us that a press gang will be here, at the warrens, later tonight

 

The group heads to the well, to refill some skins, but where there are normally two templars, there are now seven. 

 

Vogal attempts to make contact with the mind of one of the templars. He was intending to try to hear through that templar's ears. The templar detects this and is immediately suspicious. He intones a prayer and a red glow surrounds them and the templar's form scales over their bodies momentarily.

 

Vogal and Zon decide to go into the square and fill all the water skins. As they do so, the templars in the back pay very close attention to Vogal and Zon. Vogal pays the 1 bit price with a full cp and says it's for those in line. The templar says that everyone pays for themselves and pockets the cp. Vogal then starts giving out cp to 7 other people in line as a they form around him.

 

The templars watch us walk back and Vahn notices. Vahn gets Dro'van's attention to try to redirect them to another route. Dro'van tries to intercept and the templars yell to tell him to keep walking. He uses an excuse that he wants his cp from Vogal. They tell him to keep moving as Dro'van mutters the warning to Vogal to keep walking away. 

 

As Dro'van walks away, they follow him and yell for him to stop. He decide to run. They throw some kind  shackle spell against him. He manages to shrug it off, but loses precious distance. Dro'van manages to run directly into the buildings and scales a building to get away. The templars try to grab him, but fail. Eventually, one attempts to get up on the rooftop as well to begin chasing Dro'van over the roof of the building. The other one taunts Dro'van to get him to get down. Dro'van manages to get off the roof and running away. Vahn catches up and quietly watches to determine threats. The second one finally comes down off the roof and Vahn watches him, preparing for a death attack. Dro'van finally gets far enough ahead of the fast one and starts gaining ground. He gets out of sight and hides. He listens and follows the progress of the fast templar. Dro'van manages to sneak up behind the templar and attacks him, killing him.

 

Vahn cases the slower templar long enough, and kills him. He then moves the body into an alley and makes it so that it will pass casual inspection. Then he takes a circuitious route back to Z's.

 

Vogal and Zon walk down the left path past the Z's house and two of the templars continue paying close attention to them. Elendal pays close attention and notice the templar's stow weapons on themselves and begin to follow. Darting down an alleyway to escape pursuit, they overhear someone telling someone else to "get out of my way". Zon and Vogal turn around and the templars tell them to stop. They then talk about giving some change to them as they approach. As they get closer, Zon realizes they are pulling out shackles. He immediately drops the skins and draws his axe.

 

Round 1

Zon readies an attack and warns them that he isn't going to be taken. 

Vogal tries to open the mind of one, but fails.

Templar 1 raises a holy sign and tells Zon to "drop". Zon drops down to his knees.

Templar 2 throws a bola at Vogal and grazes Zon, but misses Vogal.

Round 2

Zon fails to save vs the spell, but grabs a refuse crate and throws it at Templar 1, hitting him.

Elendal shows up at this time, and tries to throw a dagger, and fails miserably.

Vogal tries again, and fails.

Templar 1 succeeds with the save against concentration and tells both Vogal and Zon to surrender. Zon

fails his save. Vogal succeeds to defend against it.

Round 3

Vogal uses Bar Mind against Templar 1, but he shrugs it off.

Templar 1 casts hold person against Zon, but fails.

Templar 2 casts hold person against Vogal, but also fails.

Elendal moves up within 10' and backstabs one of them 

Round 4

Elendal uses his current dagger as leverage and brings another dagger across his throat in a scissors-like motion.

Vogal uses "amnesia" on the non-stabbed templar.

Templar 2, injured by Elendal, turns around and smashed the shoulder of Elendal.

Zon snaps out of the surrender with the attack on Elendal and charges Templar 2.

Round 5

Templar 2 responds with his mace and smash down on Zon's back.

Zon responds by grabbing him and launching him into the wall. 

Elendal crits Templar 1, killing him.

Vogal attempts another mental attack, and fails.

Round 6

Vogal fails, again

Zon grabs Templar 2 by the side of the head and slams his head into the wall of the alley.

Templar 2 prays to Kalak to heal himself as he brings his mace around to attack Zon, missing violently.

Elendal attempts to climb up to get his dagger, as he is very badly injured.

Round 7

Elendal successfully climbs up onto the roof.

Templar asks kalak for help and his weapon and he glow.

Zon gets agree, uses his control adrenaline, and slices the templar in an upward arc with his axe.

Vogal fucks up again.

Round 8

Zon spins his axe around in his left hand and comes back around with a big hit on the templar.

Vogal attempts to slide under the templar and stabbing up with a sword, succeeding.

Elendal locates his dagger, the next roof over.

Battle Ends

 

Zon searches the templars and takes a metal mace, a pouch, two healing fruits, two potion fruits, and we get out of there.

 

Dro'van also loots the templar he killed. Vahn and Dro'van go back to Vahn's kill and loot it.

 

Zon and Vogal and Elendal finally get back to Z's and Vahn and Dro'van are already waiting. Vogal gives Zon a healing fruit and healing salve to try to heal him up a little.

 

We call up the water priest, hoping for some healing when Jon decides there is a 1 in 10 chance that a press gang shows up while waiting. Brook decides that he would roll a d10 to decide which number he had to hit. Brook rolls a 4 and so does Jon. He says that it's only a press gang on a 7 or 8 on an d8 and rolls a 7. Dro'van was watching outside and rolls a 1 on a perception check. Vahn succeeds on a listen check and hears guys near the well saying that they are starting with nearby buildings to start getting slaves. He wakes Zon and tells him to grab the others and head out the back.

 

The press gang is pretty quiet, but hits a nearby tenement building. 

 

Vahn sticks behind to watch and make sure we get away. He mentions that the entire press gang is made up of templars and they left two behind at the well to guard the slaves.

 

After looking through the loot, we find 640 cp worth of coin and some noble clothes.

Each of the metal heavy maces are exceptional quality, 8 bolas, 8 sets of shackles, and a set of inix skin bracers with a copper disk in each one. 

 

We had 6 unknown potions are identified as being two potions of heroism, two potions of giant strength, one potion of haste and one potion of neutralize poison.

 

While discussing the potions, Vogal asks Vahn if he trusts the vendor enough to identify the three scrolls. They are a scroll of sanctuary, a scroll of shielding, and a scroll of protection.

 

We go find a place to sit, relax and eat. In exchange for Vahn performing, we got a discount on our food and drink. 

 

We decide to head to the Rooster and when we finally get there, we find it boarded up, and a notice declaring Ranis and all those inside are outlaws and taken as slaves. When Vahn broke into the second floor, Ranis has a blade to his throat. They talk and she comes down and lets us in. She notices that some of we were hurt and she starts being motherly and uses salves on Zon. 

 

Ranis takes us into the kitchen and asks Zon to move the big stone table to open the trap door. It reveals a bunch of people in hiding in an underground room.

 

Jon says, "If it's a one, it's not Damerin." On a d12, he rolls a 1. :(

 

Damerin shows up but is being followed by a gang of 17 people with 3 half-giants. We decide that we would get in the room below and Vahn and Dor'van stay above to move the table back and run and hide. Vahn goes across to where Damerin went, to avoid the gang.

 

Vahn, Dor'van and Damerin talk for a little while, explaining the situation. About a half an hour later the group finally leave the Rooster, after ransacking and breaking everything.

 

When Vahn and Dor'van come back, to get everyone out, Vahn knocks on the trap door to signal that they are friendly. Zon is waiting to attack, under the door, and says, "Come in." There seems to be a collective facepalm on everyone in there when he does it.

 

Damerin distributes 10 skins of enchanted water around to help refresh everyone. He also distributes some bread for people that are obviously very hungry.

 

Afterwards, he leads everyone out of the area and into a dry riverbed. He starts sprinkling water around and saying a prayer to the water element. As we get 2/3rds of the way down into the riverbed, he squishes the rest of the water in his skin onto the ground. It all turns muddy and peels away, revealing a staircase leading into the ground. It seems to be about 50 steps down when the walls fall back and we are in a massive cavern where pillers seem to be holding up the city of Tyr and we are under it. This seems to be utter paradise. Very comfortable area with furniture and food and water. He gets all the refugees settled and then comes back to us and waits for us. He explains that he can take us to a place where our worthiness will be tested. If we succeed, we will gain knowledge that would help us in our battle against Kalak.

 

Damerin and Vahn have a good discussion about what it means to be a water priest while the rest of us rest and Dor'van asks Ranis what happened with the guards.

 

We sleep a full night's restful sleep and wake up feeling very good. When the group wakes, Damerin tells them to have some breakfast, but not to fill their bellies. He then leads them to a stone wall, that opens up to Damerin's direction. He tells us that all of this area used to be under water. This structure was here to keep Tyr out of the water. He leads us to what should be the outskirts of Tyr, a stone wall. He stops and begins a chant to begin the trial. He marks each of us on our foreheads with oil. He tells us to let it flow into our eyes. As it flows into our eyes, we see a carved temple in the wall. Thirty foot high doors stand at the top of a set of stairs.

On the other side of the door is another large room. There is a symbol on the floor of the room and there are sconces in the walls and all the pillars in the room emitting a basic glow. The sconces are unique because they are metal. The torches are lit and they haven't burned down and seem to be very constant. 

 

Once we all come in, we look behind us and find that the door is no longer there. It is just a wall now. The symbol on the floor is silver inlaid in stone. While examining the symbol, we realize that we are being stalked. We all prepare to be attacked. It turns out to be 5 Tembos.

 

Round 1

Dro'van attacks with his bow, but the tembo dodges an excellent shot.

A tembo launches at a pillar and teleports on the other side of Dro'van, attacking with a front and rear claw. He topples him and gets on top of him.

One hits Elendal by coming out of the shadows.

One hits Vahn by using ectoplasmic form and comes out of a pillar and attacks him.

One tries to contact Vogal's mind, but fails.

One comes after Zon but barely hurts him.

Elendal attacks the one facing him and misses.

Vahn tries to lure his over the symbol before attacking.

Zon attempts to sandwich the head of one between his two maces, but only connects with one of them, but maxes damage.

Vogal mentally attacks the one after him and does some mental dmg against it.

Round 2

Vogal misses his attack.

Zon smashes the one in front of his to a pulp with a double mace smash. He then runs to assist Elendal.

One pounces at Vahn and his readied action fires a bow at him over the symbol. However it still hits Vahn twice. The symbol activates and grants us temporary hit points and a hit/dmg bonus.

One attacks Dro'van for minimal damage.

One attacks Vogal and misses.

Vahn attacks the one that is still laying on the symbol wounded. Then he tries to jump onto a sconce on a piller and hold on, elevating himself over the battle floor.

Elendal attacks and misses.

Dro'van attacks by swinging up over his enemy and shoves his sword through it's brain.

Round 3 

The one against Vogal hits via mental attack. 

The one against Elendal activates his special power and fails. It gives Elendal and Zon 7 temp hit points. It then tries to claw at Elendal and misses.

The one against Vahn leaps and hits twice.

Elendal takes a flying leap at the one on him and misses.

Vahn attacks by burying his dagger in the back of his and uses it to hold on.

Dro'van attacks the one on Vogal 

Zon does a underhanded cartwheel attack with both maces against Elendal's enemy and takes its jaw with the first mace and the head with the second mace.

Vogal attacks and misses.

Round 4

Elendal readies an action.

The one on Vogal activates a power and sucks 10 hp our of Dro'van. Then attacks.

Vahn is thrown off of the one he's riding. Then attacks.

Vahn tries to shoot a bow at his opponent and misses.

Vogal uses his sword and shield together and misses.

Zon charges the one on Vahn and misses.

Round 5

Dro'van is attacked.

Zon is hit for a point of damage.

Elendal charges the tempo on Vogal and hits.

Vahn misses.

Dro'van misses

Zon splorches the last one.

Battle ends

 

After the battle, a new door appears and two healing fruits for each of us appear on the symbol.

 

Zon approaches the door. It is basically just a wall of water. Zon puts his arm in and can't pull it out. We go in and it's all under water. This is 200' hallway and we can hold our breath for a number of rounds = 1/3 con score.

 

Vahn almost drowns and Zon just runs right through. Dro'van took a little damage. Elendal took a little damage. Vogal dies.
