The Gates Are Open

December 2, 2010

The group heads back to their place after the fight at the Inn.  Well, they try to.  On the way, rampant wild magic is around, and has opened several other portals in the area.  Creatures of all kinds start coming out and hurting people, anyone who is around.  In this case, anyone was the party and they were offended by that, so they attacked back.  One portal kept spewing forth monsters until they managed to at least keep it contained until they could close it.  In the meantime, they had to fight some pretty tough monsters.  They defeated them but it was close.  After that, there was another portal and again a tough monster but the monster and the portal were both defeated.

The group gets back to their place and finally rests.  Then, after arranging to have the sewer entrance blocked and guarded and some more more carpentry, the group, including Bell who was staying in Vahn's room, decide to go to Baldur's Gate.  The trip takes about ten days up river and they do some guard work as well but it's a pretty easy trip.  When they arrive in Baldur's Gate, they look for a mage who can enchant some things as well as move enchantments.  They find one and get that done.  As they are contemplating whether they should go to Candlekeep or not, they find out about a fight club and Vahn again decides to fight in it.

They bet a lot and win a lot and are quite happy with the outcome as well as what Vahn wins for the whole thing.  Bell paid the entry fee for him and indirectly she got a share as well.  The group is wondering about her, only because she didn't help much in the fight back in Scornubel but it was not from a lack of trying.  This did seem to help and the guys seem to be okay with her.

GM Notes

  • I decided to turn the chaos of the plot cards from last time into a big plot point.  Indirectly, I suppose the players might see this as punishment for using the cards but that's not how I see it.  It's me fitting into the story the things that happened due to use of the cards.
  • Wow.  Either we are doing less than I thought or my summaries are getting too terse.  However, it was also a week after the holiday and those are tough to get a lot done.  It was fun which was the more important thing.
  • I need to develop Bell better.  I have an idea of her in my head but need to work on it.
  • Bell did poorly in the fight due to my bad rolls.  She did help with at least one, though, which helped her standing in the group.
  • I am still thinking about making the Realms a bit more fantastic and not so typical medieval.  As I say that, I'm not going to do huge things all at once but try and introduce things slowly during these campaigns, if I can.  Perhaps even introduce them as part of the campaign and let this group be part of it.
