Hints at a Plan

October 28, 2010

After much discussion, the group realizes that they are out of money and decide to check out some of the ruins that Darksouls knew of that were nearby.  They bought some horses that were not going to be good for a long time but enough so they don't have to walk now.  On the way to the ruins, they were still in cultivated lands when the orcs ambushed them!  They got warning from one of the the new swords about an attack and so weren't surprised.  It started out looking like it was going to be tough including one point where a character was surrounded but they managed to defeat the orcs.  They were instantly suspicious of the new arms and armor the orcs had.

They continued onto the ruins and found a group of twenty orcs or so there.  They decided to sneak up closer but couldn't understand the orcs.  They slit a few thraots of the ones sleeping andbefore a group of humans arrived.

The humans and orcs obviously have a deal as the leader of the humans used some magic to make twenty creates of weapons and armor appear!  They then gave them to the orcs.  After this, the humans mounted up and left again.  One almost noticed the back group that was hiding and Teldryl heard their thoughts and caught the name Avenel as the leader of the humans.

After this, the orcs are distracted by the new weapons so once again Vahn sneaks around and kills several sleeping.  They are wondering what to do when  one of the orcs takes a bunch and they leave.  The group thinks they can take the rest if Vahn can kill the sleeping ones.  Unfortunately, Vahn wasn't able to kill one, who woke up and sounded the alarm and the fight was on!

A very tough fight!  The group is split and all are attacked and take a bit of damage, with Vahn and Bamarden taking the most of course.  Vahn was near to death but managed to get back closer to Darksouls to get some healing.  If they had not killed so many sleeping ones, it might have been a more difficult fight or they might have lost.  As it was, they managed to defeat them.  They grabbed the weapons and took them back to the town.

The blacksmith is shocked at what they are bringing back!  They had made a deal to give him all mundane stuff they find that they can't use to help him with inventory.  They brought back a hundred swords and twenty suits of chain!  So, definitely a good jump in inventory for the blacksmith.

They realize that the group that came after the blacksmith was around at other businesses but they aren't sure what they can do about that.  If they try and push them away, it will look like the "Zhents" are trying to come into the town.  So, they let them go about their business.  They sleep in the smithy again.

Irvar, the one who tried to get protection from the blacksmith for his boss, comes back in the early morning and tries to get Vahn.  There is a new fighting pit for money started and Irvar wanted to know if any of them were interested in going.  They were but Bamarden stayed behind to watch the shop.  The others go to find a huge converted warehouse that was abandoned but is now filled with some night life.  Irvar, Darksouls and Vahn start drinking and watching the match.  Vahn thinks he might do well so signs up.  He has to catch up with a few fights and does very well in them.  So, he is in the final eight.  Vahn ends up knocking out most opponents in one hit.  It's pretty brutal.  And Irvar spread rumor that he was a Zhent, so that made many wary of him, and by extension Darksouls.  Teldryl was there but had come on her own.

Vahn fights the opponent and again takes him out in one hit.  Vahn is very unimpressed.  In the quarter finals, someone finally takes two hits and hit him back but Vahn just smiled at him and knocked him out.  He wins the final match as well and many are scared of him.  This is new for Vahn, not the fighting but winning.  he could have won in other fights but always stopped before being noticed.  Now, he was noticed.  They finish up and go back to the smith's shop.

They also set up a meeting with the town's leader, Lady Rhessajan Ambermantle, to tell her about the weapons and they heard about an orc attack on the town in ten days or so.  They are surprised that they got to see the lady and she was open to what they had to say.  They had gotten proof with weapons and orc ears.  They were believed and for being competent, offered potential work from the Lady.  They are going to think about it.

The group also heads back to the warehouse to find more weapons but when they get there, it's just Roth.  He tells them the place is empty as they have moved on to another spot.  They were hoping to find the source of the weapons and make it tough on the group in the warehouse but no luck there.  They also find out that where they thought they were dealing with four groups trying to start guilds, there is actually only one that has divided the city.  They aren't sure if they are happy about that or not.

GM Notes

  • I have taken a few pictures of the board and need to get them out there.  I didn't take any of this session.
  • The players knew that attacking the orcs was not the best idea.  One player said, "okay this is stupid but I will go along with it" and it was tough but they did well and won it.
  • In the past, I would have had an idea of it being too tough and not let them fight but that's not what it's about!  So, I rolled with what they were doing and tried to make it tough but fun.  I think I succeeded in that.
  • I tried to do some language for the orcs but while it worked wasn't consistent.  I need to get my translator programs back or find a website for it.
  • We got through a LOT of combat and role playing this session!  I think that's a combination of four players and low level.  I'm sure that higher level would have made the fights take longer.  Good and bad about that.
  • I had thought it was obvious that there was only one group that had broken up the city into four areas but apparently not.  So, it was good that I clarified that for them.
