d20 Star*Drive

Star*Drive

 

Setting:

There are many governments radiating outward from Sol.  (That's our solar system, btw.)  I think Star*Drive has thirteen governments.  One is a theocracy, one is a loose coalition, one a megacorp, one a democracy, etc.  The area the group is in is called the fringe.  Some time ago, 2315, the Verge was found and it was the new frontier.  All of the stellar nations, as they are called, moved into this frontier.  By 2341, many of the systems were populated. 

 

However, back in the stellar nations, the Second Galactic War was brewing and it became real in 2346.  The Verge saw some fighting but they were quite a distance from the stellar nations.  While there were some skirmishes between various groups of the stellar nations, that all ended when the communication relay to the homeworlds was destroyed in 2375.  The Verge was on its own and the groups realized that they couldn't live if they fought each other.  They dropped allegiances to the stellar nations, for the most part, and worked with each other to survive. 

 

As the war raged on, the Verge worked on surviving.  There were dangers out here and many problems.  Communication relays and stations would go out due to solar storms, radiation or (micro) meteoroid hits.  Solar flares in a system would give need for the system to be evacuated and the people relocated.  Dangerous life forms would be found and need to be destroyed or captured, depending on who was asking.  As the Second Galactic War reached a century in 2446, the Verge didn't think much about them anymore.  They were creating their own lives and doing well. 

 

The Second Galactic War is over in 2472, which doesn't mean much to the Verge, other than the stellar nations started rebuilding and would eventually come to the Verge.  The Verge didn't know this until the communication relay was fixed in 2496.  When it is, it sends a seven year old distress call from Hammer's Star.  When it is investigated, in 2497, the colony is in ruins. 

 

In the Alternity Star*Drive, the present is 2501 and while most things are okay, there is looming war with the Klicks. 

 

However, my thought is to go back to 2488, maybe earlier, before the attack at Hammer's Star and have your group there, or the ones who find it and have to get word to other Verge worlds.  The attackers stop for a bit, and that will give the group time to figure out a plan or do scouting or other missions. 

 

6/11/2009 - I set the game in June of 2486, several years before the attack at Hammer's Star.  The group is based in Hammer's Star and have contacts there, so they have some ties to the system.  However, it's not set that they will stay there.
