The Werewolf and Mage Killings in Chicago

Over the next couple of days the group figures out that if the cult was still around they would have had to do the next ceremony. But nothing happened. The cycle had been broken.

Steven used a number of methods from flowers to candy trying to get back in Julies good graces.  The efforts are not met with much success.

 

After about four days from the return, Julie says there is a killing like the ritual killings. The group hurries to check out the sceene, but it was obviously a killing disquised as a ritual killing. The runes were wrong and in different languages and done poorly and with the wrong...well...everything. If this is correct, the cultists will have to wait two years and start over to perform this particular ritual.

 

Another week passes. The group spends the time improving their abilites and taking care of a few minor private eye jobs that become available.

 

Michael does some experimenting, finds out he can cross over anywhere now at will. One odd thing, spirits seem to avoid Michael instead of comming up to him like they used to. Remembering how the spirits were concerned about being punished, he wonders if there are other abilities he has not learned.

 

Julie calls you after another few days.  She hasn't heard from some of the smaller packs in town.

Further, she heard rumors that some Pure tribes were killed but she can't be sure of that. 

She has some bodies in the morgue and was wondering if the group could tell as she can't tell.

 

Michael tell the group, they start to get ready to leave when Daniel comes in.

"Martina's place is getting attacked. The guardians of the veil are all dead, and while Marina was talking to me the line went dead. We have to go now!"

Everyone was ready to go anyway, but now they grabbed additional weapons and tazers.

The group piles into Steven's fixed up truck and Gordons car and take off. Cars seem to just move out of the way as we travel on the road.

 

"I see people with guns sneaking up to the bookstore" says Daniel, "they look like regular people with guns, they don't look military; so not Valkyre. They do have various weapons, shotguns and 9mm, I see six walking up but I bet there are more on the sides and front."

 

As the vehicles arrive, a number of people can be seen out front. A couple of them are trying in vain to break into the front door of the bookstore. There are bars on the windows that also are keeping them out. Michael, seeing the regular people with guns, says to Steven "we should just have them arrested"

Steven thinks a second, and calls Julie, telling her the situation.

 

There is still light out being about 7:30pm, but even so the people are waiving their guns and occasionally shooting the building in frustration. Some of them actually looks like bums, not fighters by any means.

 

"Daniel, can you check and see if they are under some sort of mind control?" asks Steven.

"Well, they are not under any spell, but they are not exactly 'human'." answers Daniel.

Steven parks the vehicle, gets out and draws his wand of force; Michael gets out as well.

A girl at the end notices the two people getting out of the truck and motions to her friends. The weapons all are put away and they suddenly act like they are just hanging around instead of trying break in.

 

The other three get out of Gordons vehicle and move towards the back of the store. A bum starts drinking but doesn't put his gun away. Carter keeps moving towards the bum looking fellow.

"That's far enough boy, this doesn't concern you." says the bum.

Carter keeps moving forward, the gun goes off and the round slams into Carter.

The others, surprised, draw their guns and cover Steven.

 

Steven draws the wand of force and activates it in their direction.

It hits the woman in the front, she lifts up off the ground and slams into two more people shoving them backward and pounds them into an invisible barrier. All three fall t othe ground unconscious.

Carter rushes up to the man that shot at him, grabs him, and throws him as far as he can. The body slams into the building, hits the fire-escape, flips around and around and lands on the roof of the building.

 

Daniel performs a psychic assault on the guy closest to him. The bashing damage slams into the attacker.

 

Michael rushes up, changes into near wolf form, keeping his claws sheathed he opens his arms wide grabbing their heads and slam them together.

"DEMON" yells one just before he falls to the ground unconscious. The second one is staggered, but falls back away from the attacking werewolf.

Michael noticed as he was walking forward that he passed through some sort of force, like moving through Jell-O, but he pushed through it easily.

 

Gordon draws a tranq. pistol and shoots a woman, it hits her right in the artery in her neck and she doesn't even have time to yell as she falls to the ground asleep.

 

Daniel suddenly sees five people appear behind Steven as their veil drops. They perform a mind attack on Steven, all five at once, and hit him hard.

Two more try to mentally attack Daniel, he takes four bashing.

Three guys try to attack Michael, but they are so nervous that they all miss and one of the guns even misfires.

Another round flies at Michael and hits him, but it just bounces off and lands on the ground. Michael looks at it then stares the guy down. The guy flinches back.

 

All the people standing by Carter shoot at once as two dozen bullets fly through the air in his direction. He takes two bashing as only a couple even manage to effect him at all.

Steven, totally pissed about the mental attack, concentrates in anger and forces the energy out in a massive wave at the five attackers. At this point, he doesn't even try to hold back, unconcerned about the end result of the attack as he screams and releases the energy. The wave of energy washes over the five attackers (13 dice - 11 successes). Four are lifted up off the ground and bones shatter as they are slammed into the building. One just falls to the ground, dead or unconscious, he's just down.

 

Daniel pulls out a pistol and aims right at the left eye of the person that attacked him. It goes where aimed, and he drops.

Looking at the other guy standing there, Daniel says "LEAVE!" and moves around front towards Michael.

 

"We'll take this demon, you get inside and get those demons!" says one of the guys at Michael.

The two run up to the door and try to shoot out the door locks. Between the two of them they manage to shoot out the lock, push the door open and rush inside.

 

Another woman out back steps up, starts shimmering, and turns into an insectoid like creature, and says "I'll hold them off, you guys get inside."

 

Five more rush inside the building.

Carter pushes past the insectoid figure, rushing right past it into the building. It attacks him as he goes past, but it doesn't even dimple his flesh. He can tell she had the form but not the power. Carter burns a point of legend and activates an ability of massive charisma, forcing everyone there to pay attention to him unless they burn a willpower. They do so, forcing him to dive into them and doing a melee attack.

He knocks down a few, but he can see towards the front two guys moving towards the stairs that he couldn't stop.

Michael, opens his claws and tries to swipe at their legs to stop them. He drops one, ripping tendans open. The other manages to avoid the attack. The one with the broken weapon shoots agian but it doesn't go off, so he throws his pistol.

Gordon shoots and hits the insect woman with at least five darts. She sucks in break, turns human, and falls to the ground. He then rushes into the building, sees the guys at the stairs, and rushes at them. Gordon manages to land on one and trip him to the floor. The other dodges and gets to the door at the top of the stairs.

 

Steven tries to shake off the after effects of the mental attack. He manages to look around but is still somewhat stunned so he only collects himself.

 

Daniel, rushes into the shop and looks at the situation. Carter seems to be on top of things downstairs, literally as five bodies are under him. He then sees Gordon on the stairs holding one guy as another one is moving towards the door at the top. He shoots him in the leg, causing him to drop on the stairs.

 

Seeing Steven just standing still, the guy the guy that Daniel told to leave walks up to Steven and tries to stab him with a sacrificial looking dagger. It plunges into his side as Steven takes a point of lethal.

The entire group gets an emotional sense that Steven is having some sort of issue through the mental link.

A guy attacks Michael. Michael isn't sure what he did as he took no damage, but he is certain he was attacked. The other guy that Michael clawed at see's his buddy on the ground, see's Michaels claws, his eyes get huge realizing he is next, and runs away screaming.

The guy at the top of the stairs draws a gun and shoots at Gordon. He misses terribly due to the wound in his leg and the fear of Gordon being right there.

Gordon, knowing the guys are trapped, lifts up the guy he is pinning to the ground and uses him as a club against the guy at the top of the stairs. As they slam together they hit pretty hard and both of them roll past him falling down the stairs.

 

Carter sees the person running away, picks up a body in both hands and flings them at the guy that is running. He misses, but the guy saw what happened and literally faints away at the sight.

 

Daniel cannot sense any magic when he hears from the other side in a muffled voice

Michael turns and rushes at the person attacking Steven. He makes himself seem as big as possible, howls a blood curdling call and using his claws cuts the legs out from under the attacker. He hits, the guy crumbles to the ground. Michael picks up Steven and rushes back towards the store.

 

A gunshot echoes as a round slams into Steven. As he is about to pass out, he uses his mana to heal himself up. Michael can sense him come alert even while he is carrying him. It makes Michael smile a wolfish smile thinking how Steven must feel.

 

Sirens can be heard in the distance; police are on the way. Michael sets Steven down as they enter the store. All the attackers are either dead or knocked out.

"We need to get out of here, and interrogate one of them. I will stay here." says Daniel.

"I understand Daniel is staying, can the rest of you get a few blocks away?"

Everyone else, fully healed already, rush out to the vehicles and drive away.

 

The police show up and look around at the bodies, the blood, and the general mess. They can't figure out how the blood splatters on the walls got there, or the deep cuts on a couple of them that look like they were made with swords. After just a few comments from Daniel though, they completely believe that the men all fought each other after breaking in. Hours later, Daniel calls Gordon and says "this is still going on and is going to take awhile."

 

Michael decided instead of waiting to go check on Julie at the morgue to look at the bodies.

"What happened? You usually are here in minutes." says Julie.

"I don't know! Normally we just seem to move through traffic. This time, it was like people were out to slow us down."

Julie takes them down to the morgue to look at the bodies she mentioned. Michael was expecting two or three. There are 17 bodies down there. And they are messy, ripped to shreds by at least eight gunshot wounds or more, some with shotgun at close range. All but two of them were wolves, Michael can tell. It seems to Michael that the deaths are between two and seven days old. He can also tell that some of them are pure. Only 3 of them are pure.

"How can you tell that?" asks Julie

"They were wearing dog tags" says Gordon

"That was absolutely terrible," says Michael, even while Steven and Gordon are giving him high-fives.

Julie makes a call "there could be another pack gone. They own a pub called 'The hair of the dog"

"Hey! We've been there," says Steven.

"We have to go help them, Now!" says Michael, as he rushes up out of the door towards the truck.

He calls Daniel  and lets him know where to meet. Daniel and Martina arrives and has to wait ten minutes for the others to show up. That was with Julie using her squad car and sirens to get them there.

Julie immediately jumps out of the car and rushes inside yelling orders. Michael is close behind her. As Michael enters, he can tell that nobody inside there is a wolf.

"Sorry, another pack is gone, nobody has seen them in a few days. There has been demons involved around here too. I'm not sure what. Well, I have to go home and try some of the other packs."

Martina suddenly says "wait wait! Now that everyone is gone, I have something to tell you. I think all the rest of the mages of Chicago are dead or gone. I have some places to check out, but I think they are all gone."

"What about the vampires? We should call Persephone." Carter calls and asks if she is ok.

"Who is this? Oh Carter, hi. Yeah, I'm fine. Did you want that date? You don't, I thought you liked me!"

Flustered, Carter answers "That isn't the pressing issue right now..."

"It isn't?"

"No, wait, listen, every group of supernatural's in the city is under attack. Have you seen anything?"

"No, nothing. Why, should I be worried?"

"I don't know. Mages and wolves have been getting killed in huge amounts. I just wanted to check on you."

"Oh, well thank you. I will call my friend and some others and see what I can find out."

"Ok, you just watch yourself."

"Well why don't you watch me?"

"I can't right now, I have to..."

"Fine..." and she hangs up the phone.

Julie says " I guess the best lead is to follow the mages?"

"I can't sense any wolf scent in the bar for at least a couple of days, so nothing I can track."

"You could do that? Wow, I knew I should have been a shaman."

 

We travel to the location suggested by Marina. The house is in a forested area, and it's huge. The house is full of scorch marks and bullet holes. The house was massively assaulted. Julie checks the computer "none of this was reported. Nobody saw anything or reported anything. We may need to check out the neighbors."

They find the bodies of all the mages. They count 15 dead mages and over thirty dead servants. They come out and inform the people outside, and decide to go do some investigative work inside. Everyone follows her.

 

Searching the house, Julie finds a safe. She doesn't know the combination she says, as Carter walks up and manages to open the safe. She looks shocked, so he pulls the door off the hinges and throws it out the wall.

She laughs and says "that's better, the world is back to normal." She turns back to the safe and starts just tossing stacks of money on the floor. She then pulls out stacks of paper looking over them. "No, none of these." Then she pushes a hidden button in the safe, and a wall disappears. The first thing they see is an Iron golem. She mumbles something to the golem as its eyes light up. "He will now obey me."

She opens up five trays of diamonds, and then pulls out a golden scepter.

"Ok…good." and then pulls out a staff with Egyptian runes and carvings on it, complete with a cobra head at the top.

"Do you think we can get the golem back to my place?"

"I can try and lessen its weight, if there is a truck we can test putting him in it?" says Steven.

They search the garage, find an Austin-Martin, a Porsche, and an H2 hummer.

She hands the staff to Martina. The two items are beacons of magic in both Steven and Daniels eyes.

"These are relics from Atlantis. I don't want you to play with them or study them or do anything with them. But I need to find a place to put them that they will be safe. Steven says your attic will hide them, can you guarantee you won't touch them?"

Everyone agrees. She shrinks the Golem so it can walk through the door "It doesn't affect its weight" she says as it walks out.

 

Martin & Martina go back to talk to their cabal. Daniel stays with them. Julies goes to her house and then comes back.

She walks up to Michael and says "I can't reach anyone else that I don't know about. It's like they are all gone."

Michael, upset, goes out and gets on a motorcycle. He drives through all of Chicago, trying to find any wolves anywhere. He manages to find 3, but they shy away from him when they sense his presence. He lets them hide, noting where they are at.

 

Gordon calls Persephone. She is still groggy as he says "well, after searching all of Chicago, all the mages and werewolves in town are dead."

"What! Thank you for the warning. I will call and warn all the others I know"

 

Michael returns, informs the group of what he found. Gordon updates Michael about the calls to Persephone.

 

They get the guy out of the trunk and interrogate him. His leader was among the dead. The guy has no other useful information.

 

The phone rings, it's Persephone, " A group was attacked by they held them off and are doing fine."

"One of the people we captured was part of a group known as the marsupials."

"Thank you, I will pass that along. The prince is calling a meeting to inform everyone."

Gordon activates the mansion defenses. Carter goes to test them as he slams his fist into a window and is shot across the street. He shakes his head and walks back to the mansion.

Maxwell calls the house "Who am I addressing? Carter, excellent. Thank you for the warning. Our meeting place was wired with several pounds of C4. All of us would have died had we just had our usual meeting. We are checking out our secondary places to meet. IT appears we have been compromised. This group took out the mages and the wolves?"

"There is one cabal of mages and less than a handful of wolves."

"Can you find out where they are based?"

"It's like they are in cells, we don't know where the leader is. I can put together something and try to divine the location, but I don't know for certain."

"You need to act decisively, gather everyone together, all the supernatural, and attack tonight."

 

Everyone kind of rests waiting for Steven to do the ritual. Gordon and Daniel, sitting there quietly, suddenly realized they killed people; ended their lives, even though it was in self defense. Their conscious weighs heavy on them as they sit quietly in contemplation awaiting Stevens information.

 

Carter, curious, goes to the vampire meeting area and disarms the C4 he finds there. He can tell that although the C4 is home-made, but it is well made and designed as if by a professional, not an armature.

There was some argument over who gets to keep the C4 as the vampires wanted all of them while Carter wanted to take it all home. He finally settled on fifty pounds and stormed out of the building with Gordon in tow.
