The Second Fall of Myth Drannor

August 28, 2007

The group comes out of the fog to see a terrible sight.  Lisha is down and about to be impaled on a insectoid demon's spear.  Mym is down and about to be sliced by a demon's sword.  Kal is standing between. On Deuce's order, Kal attacks the demon over Mym while Deuce shoots at the demon over Lisha.  Kal's attack in intercepted by the demon, which slices Kal in half.  Deuce doesn't think anything of it, knowing that Kal should be back on the Astral Plane.  He shoots the demon with cold iron arrows, getting its attention.

Notch yells, "ding" and a yellow nimbus surrounds him.  He then rushes up and attacks the demon on Lisha.  Reece attacks with ice from his wand.  Marcus heals Lisha and Julia watches in amazement next to Marcus.

The other demon brings its sword down on Mym and she disappears.  Again, Deuce isn't too worried and fires more arrows at the first.  Although Lisha has been healed, she still isn't moving.  Notch hits it hard.  After Reece hits it, it goes down.  They turn their attention to the other demon and soon it is down as well.  Deuce rushes up to check on Lisha and sees she is all right.  Julia, finally recovered from the surprise of the scene, sees the broken figurines and says she is sorry to Deuce.  Deuce doesn't completely understand until he notices the pieces as well.  Reece gathers them up in a bag and gives them to Deuce.  He takes them numbly, still holding Lisha.

They finish recovering with more healing from Marcus.  They see the building covered in darkness and are unsure of what to do.  Nearly all of them notice they black dragon, trailing shadows, coming toward them.  As they wait and watch, Figment turns into his winged elf form and lands.

"Greetings.  Are you willing to help me destory the mythal of Myth Drannor?"

"Why would we do that?" retorts one of the group.

"Well, it's a blight on the area.  It allows demons and devils here, even if they can't leave.  It causes magical destruction in the storms.  It creates wild and dead magic areas, which influence the whole of nature around here.  It's a blight and I would see it destroyed."

"What's your motive?"

"Well . . . I can't have my subjects have such a dangerous area where they could be hurt.  I want to be seen as helping protect them.  I can't do everything, of course, but I can get rid of the perversion that the mythals have become.  Look to Hellgate Keep as it is called if you need more proof.  So, I seek to destroy them.  I need your help, especially you Marcus to destroy the demons.  Will you help me?"

The group talks about it at length but can find no hole in his argument.  They are sure they haven't been lied to but still question Figment's motives.  However, they realize doing a good thing is doing a good thing and after consulting with Tabra and Malcolm, both of whom agree it would be best to see the mythal gone, they agree.

Figment takes them where his followers have prepared the area.  Reece takes center stage with the others in circles around the main circle.  Soon, the ritual begins.  Marcus clears out the demons, including the pit fiend they fought.  Then the tainted orcs and other goblinoids are cleansed.  Some undead are cleansed as well, including baelnorn who thank the group for freeing them and making the place more safe.  Finally, the ritual is at an end.

Figment thanks them and he and his followers leave.  The group is left with the trek back to Shadowdale, although they stop at the Knights of Myth Drannor's camp and tell them what happened.  They are happy and some stay to check it out while most go back with the group to report to Shadowdale.  At Shadowdale, there is a huge celebration for the group.  Deuce doesn't like being known in the area, more places where he will be recognized, but even he can see the good that was done.

If only they knew what Figment had planned.

Notes

  • I forgot to run Julia during the fight and no noe reminded me.  So, she just stood there.
  • This doesn't show how much time they spent debating whether or not to help Figment.  Good stuff, really.
  • It was fun playing the NPCs.  Malcolm didn't remember Deuce the first time, which was fun.
  • Yes, the lions were sacrificed to save Lisha, essentially.  The player did agree to it, albeit reluctantly.
