As we approach the village, we see the smoke.

When we reach the villiage, we see the destruction.

They are here...the ones who did this.  These Bane followers have a few corpses Cabal thinks they just started a ritual, and we have around 10 minutes before it completes.  We don't let them finish, and the music of my blade helps us end things quickly.  Before the battle is won, however, a skull rips itself out of one of the bodies and begins to attack us.  It's attacks are sloppy and it seems to be having initial difficulty understanding and controlling its magic.  By the time the battle is through, the vile skull is finished.  Cabal believes the ritual would have brought these skulls from each of the bodies...that would have been bad, but there was also something else.  Cabal isn't sure, but there was more to it.  On the positive, we found a few gems and coins which we made use of, as well as an enchanted sword, an enchanted holy symbol and a Lightning staff.

We search the ruins and find 5 people in hiding that survived the carnage.  We give them some food and water, and spend time settling their nerves.  I give a dagger to a young man in the group who still seems jumpy and make up a story about it and the luck it has brought me.  I tell him that I hope it gives him the same luck, and his smile shows me this ploy has calmed his nerves.  Once they calmed down a bit, they share with us that a guard returned to the villiage and had found Draconic writing in some ruins in the forest.  They didn't know where, but he had come from the east.

We search the forest to the east and come upon the ruins of a temple complex.

Dragonborn lived here and knew of several cults and orc civilization.  They fought orcs.

We rest

In the morning we enter the ruins.
