Having finished up my final campaign with "The Living Legends," a mercenary group I was leading, I decided I would like to take it a little easier and head south into an area less noted for it's quarrels. I had had enough fighting for a while. It was time to slow down and have a bit of a holiday.
When I say fighting, I mean battle. I don't mind fighting. Actually, a fight gets the blood pumping and makes you feel alive. I'm just getting sick of the endless strain of battle. Losing men to a cause not my own is exhausting. The pay was only fair. I only fought for what I considered "honorable" causes, which made the fare even less. Honorable folks couldn't afford mercenaries. Because of that we were always under-provisioned, and over stressed. The men handled themselves superbly in battle, but ultimately they needed more money and my company began to thin out. Finally, I relinquished command of my troops.
That found me in the town of Glenmaple, staring at a paper in the town square. It was asking for people to assist in finding a passage east to Penburg. This seemed like an honorable goal. Finding a way to enhance trade between two separated societies. This would be a relaxing and enjoyable quest.
