Going Once, Going Twice

April 21, 2016

The group wakes up in the cave.  It's a bit cold and slightly damp.  Very dark until Zendryl dispels that with a light spell.  They talk about what happened to themselves.  Decide to head back out.

When they get to where the group that is going to hold the auction are, they break back in via the doors.  Gavin is surprised they made it but is still a gracious host and allows them to eat.  They realize why they are so hungry when he tells them the auction is tomorrow, they were gone for three days, and that's why they were greeted with hostility, as Gavin thought they were dead, lost, or elsewhere.  Told the auction is at the theater, with paintings standing in for the real items until that item comes up.  They are also told it's a big event for the town, with many attending, just to see what is there, who comes, and who gets what.

When they get back to the Inn, again, surprise that they are still alive.  They pay for the rooms where they had their stuff, their horses were cared for, and they pay for a few more days.  Bellytimber takes off, leaves town, and flies away.  The group discusses what they should do.

After they figure out what they want themselves from the auction, with Fei interested in the sword, the helm, and the Fallen Blood, Thomas spreads rumors that they aren't as valuable as people think.  Bellytimber comes back with seventeen thousand in gold and platinum bars from Lady Sheila.  They are to get the helm if they can and anything else that looks interesting.  Track the rest and see what they can find out about who got them.

When they get to the auction, they are amazed.  Taldans, Kellids, Irrisen, Osirion, Galt, Cheliax, and Andoran are all represented.  All are well dressed and playing the part.  They group, especially Thomas, is bored by the opening auction parts, with art, jewely, and other mundane items.  Bellytimber gets a few minor items which he pays for himself.  Then the real stuff starts.

When a noble starts to bid on the mithril, it really annoys Zendryl and he can't help but bid.  And bid.  And bid until he won it.  It was decently priced, only because Fei can work it.  The group can see he is pushing himself not to bid when the nobles bid on things, after they told him to save it for now.  They note who won the adamantine, dragon scales, and Crystal Orb of the Void.

When the Fallen Blood comes up, a raven haired woman, wearing spectacles, bids.  Kull tries to distract her with talk but isn't able to.  However, she still doesn't win it.  The group also wins the Tarrasque scales, a Sword of Sin, Garvok, and, and the Fallen Blood.  More than a few look at them with envy at what they acquired.

Since they didn't get the helm, Fei follows and finds that Dac, the winner, went to the same Inn where they were staying.

When he gets back, he finds out that the sword was taken!  He's not happy and they immediately track it, in several different ways.  They catch up to the thieves, all women but they don't see any faces, and get the sword back.  The women drop the sword rather than stay and fight.  Fei takes it back and recrafts it into something else.  He also makes a sword out of the mithril and fallen blood for Kull.

Kull tries to again talk to Rae but while polite, she doesn't flirt much with him.  After the auction, she seems a bit more flirtatious, but excuses herself and isn't around when they go get the sword back.

GM Notes

  • Ack.  Wrote up notes but not this write up until late.  Minecraft can really take up time!  :)
  • Again, loved Fate.  Loved what it can do for us and how things worked out.
  • The auction really worked much better than I thought.  I think I had several of the players at the edge of their seat, wondering if they would win an auction or not.  I was really happy with how it worked.
  • The quick action sequence to get the sword also worked well.  Quite happy with that.
