Purple Dragons

Page history last edited by Brook Keele 3 yrs ago

We have been staying at the inn in Hightown for some time now. The innkeeper's name is Randon and he is quite a good fellow. It seems that we party a lot and the others seem to wench quite a bit. I am not too fond of either really. The local sort of alcohol doesn't bode well for a fourteen year old in the body of a halfling. Being as small as me has many disadvantages. Being a fourteen year old who looks like he is six makes some serious relationship problems. What girl my age is going to seriously look at a boy like me?

Moving on...After one particularly heavy night of partying, three women came up to our rooms. They didn't try to sneak or hide. They just came into the rooms and started packing up our things. I woke up as they were coming up the steps and as soon as I realized they were trying to get us out. I got ready as they were trying to wake Victor and Reese. When they came to me I was already ready to go. They had foodstuffs all ready for us and it was obvious we were going somewhere.

Randon explained that the Dragons were coming to town. That of course alarmed us until we realized that he was talking about the Purple Dragons. They were evidently escorting a noble of some sort into the area and Byron had no intention of us being found. He was sending us away with everything he could spare to help us. He didn't want to know where we were going and had no idea how long we would need to be gone. All he knew was that we had to stay away from the Dragons.

So we headed southwest to the woods. We find a small clearing in the trees and make a small camp. I managed to hunt down a brace of coneys and we ate. That night we slept with a rotating watch. During Reese's watch, he failed to warn us early enough of a pack of wolves and they attacked.

When we woke, a whole pack of wolves attacked us very quickly. Pretty much right away, we were each surrounded. During a hectic battle, Victor killed the leader of the pack and the fight fizzled out of the others. One other was killed, but the rest fled. After the battle, I set some warning traps around the perimeter to warn us early and then threw the rabbits into the woods to try to satisfy the wolves. I heard the crunching and hoped it would keep them away. They appeared very thin and must have been desperate for food to have attacked a group around the fire.

The next morning we traveled to the caves north of the area to set up a camp that is more defendable. We managed to find a suitable site and got comfortable.

That evening I heard strange noises and having set up my warning traps again, they provided the needed warning. An owlbear showed up outside the cave and seemed to be eating anything it could find.

We end up getting into a battle with the owlbear and Victor throws both of his axes at it. He sticks one and has to go to retrieve the axe during combat. This ends badly as Victor is mortally wounded during the battle. I had to actually run to the nearest hamlet to get a woman to come back to help him. He managed to get stabalized by her while they sent for a priest. After a very difficult night, an acolyte arrived and performed admirably in healing Victor. I gave him the two wolf pelts I had as thanks and then skinned the owlbear.

After the healing, we get word that the Dragons have left the area and we make the return trip to Hightown. When we get back to the inn, we find out that Eric was found late and spent the whole town in the cellar. The wine cellar.

I made arrangements with a seamstress to turn the owlbear pelt into a proper set of clothing for me. In return I spend the next while running errands and performing small tasks to pay her for her help.
