Fall of the Children of Westcrown

We start out about to walk around a corner where Arael is surrounded. There are sounds of fighting and K brings Verus back to the group to help out.

Curator, Galen, and K move into the battle to help Arael and Verus Dimension Door's up to the roof of one of the buildings. Surprisingly enough, Thesing is on the roof right next to where Verus shows up. He's rather surprised to see Verus.

Ricken is waylaid as he tries to move past the building by the tiefling woman that we all let go in the attic of the mayor's house. She says, "I will have my revenge!" as she lays into Ricken for a lot of damage. He runs past her and is waylaid by another person from the next roof, but is missed. He continues past and is shot in the back by another one on the roof with a crossbow.

Arael tries to cast a spell but allows the enemies to hit him as he does so and he goes down under the onslaught.

One of the enemies yells, "Begone devil!!" and casts a dismissal spell at K. Verus yells back, "Not this time!", throws out his hand and blocks the spell from 40 ft away, protecting K.

Curator just destroys two of the enemies in retaliation for Arael. The assassin then goes for a coupe de grace on Arael but Curator steps in and defends him.

Verus casts Chain Lightning, pretty much missing everybody except the primary guy in front of him. Ricken then casts Hostile Juxtaposition on Thesing which will allow him to switch places with him if Ricken is hit by an attack. Then Thesing grabs a vial off of a bandoleer and throws it at Verus, missing.

Curator steps up to the assassin and kills him. Galen then stops up and attacks the cleric.

Praetorius steps up from behind the ogre and disarms him with his chain. He rips the warhammer out of its hand and flings it behind him.

The tiefling bamfs behind Ricken, gaining combat advantage on him, while Ricken activates his Hostile Juxtaposition with Thesing, resulting in a switch of places for the two of them. She then properly hits Thesing quite hard. While Ricken, now on the roof of the building they were next to, casts Ice Storm on everyone in the area.

The cleric tries to curse Galen and can't get past the spell resistance. He responds by killing the cleric.

Verus quaffs a potion and pushes himself to get a scorching ray spell to reach Thesing, hitting him with 2 rays of fire.

The tiefling then runs away from Galen and Curator. Thesing also runs from them. Galen manages to get an attack of opportunity on Thesing but fails to kill him as he gets away.

Curator takes flight over the buildings and catches the tiefling and attacks. K grabs Verus and teleports over to Ricken.

Galen and Curator both hacked at her as she tried to get away again, killing her.

When all is quiet people come out to the noise and ask what is going on. Verus replies that Thesing led a group of assassins against Arael and killed him. When we all look around, we see that Arael is dead. Ricken summons a Trumpet Archon which raises him from the dead. When he comes back, he starts to cough blood and saying that something is wrong. 

We all try more solutions, wand of restoration, Heal, Detect Poison, Detect Magic, and a lot of other things. Galen finally realizes that something is inside him that isn't supposed to be there. Galen pulls a curved needle about 8 inches long that was embedded in his abdomen. It's a quieting needle. It is put into a corpse to cause them a lot of damage if they are brought back.

He's finally brought back to full healing.

Galen asks him where he was when he was seen talking to Eric about how the Dottari are no longer worthy. It seems that Arael wasn't around at that time, he was in the main town at the market. So he's apparently being impersonated.

We then head back to Vizio's Tavern in search of Janaven. The door is locked and it seems deserted. Arael unlocks it and Galen steps in before him. We all look around.

We find a servant cleaning up. We ask her where everyone is and she said that everyone went to sleep about 10 min ago. We talk to her a little bit and head back upstairs to talk to Janaven. Rosardo is at the top of the stairs with his throat cut. Galen says he's been dead around 30 min. Galen heads back to the servant. The rest of us head on down the hallway. In Fiosa, the halfling, is sprawled on her bed, blood spilling out over everywhere.

We continue down to the rest of the rooms and everyone is dead, including Janaven. All the Children of Westcrown are dead except for Arael. There are defensive wounds on Janaven, including a broken lower leg. Galen looks at Janaven and determines that she has been dead around a month. 

Verus mentions that we funded some bad guy with 1000gp by giving it to the Janaven that should have been.

After we talked to Arael for quite a while, we decided to keep him under wraps. He agrees to help Verus out in the lab while we keep him in hiding. K takes Verus and Arael to his lab and Galen, Ricken, and Praetorius head to the house of the servant that conveniently left when we found Rosardo. Her name is Denise and she lives in the tenaments by Judged.

K and Verus get Arael settled in the lab and teleported back to the group as we left the tavern. We are intercepted in the darkness by outsiders. A nihiloi, cabal devils, vampire spawn, and a shadow garm are on the outskirts of our senses.

The nihiloi and cabal devils all cast fireballs at us. Verus senses a place that can hold magic and redirects all the spell energy into Ricken's Staff of the Magi. That makes him very nervous as Verus just about made the staff explode. 

The nihiloi then says that they will have to spawn more. The vampires move forward and other undead show up behind them.

Curator and K take care of the vampires while Galen goes after the nihiloi. Ricken casts mass enlarge person and Verus casts mass cat's grace and pulls the golden eagle out of his pack. Praetorius attacks the nihiloi with a couple of really solid hits, destroying it. 

Then a LOT more show up. Another nihiloi, more undead, more vampires. Ricken tells us to gather up as he prepares to plane shift us away. Galen casts holy smite on a cluster of undead, nihiloi, and cabal devils. Then moves back to the group. Praetorius takes another round of magic missiles and goes down. Verus uses the golden eagle to cast sunburst on one group, then Ricken plane shifts us to the celestial plane. K finds it VERY uncomfortable and Ricken sends her back so she can go anywhere once she's back.

Meanwhile, we rest there and Galen heals Praetorius. 

A celestial being barrels towards us while Galen heals. When it arrives, we talk to it and it is telling us we have to go home to preserve the balance. He told us we have to go Home. He answers like he's not able to say what he wants to say. Like he's under a geas. Ricken asks Curator to explain what was happening. He said that it was receiving orders from another celestial.

When Ricken tries to plane shift us back, something goes wrong. As we travel between the planes, it's like dragging planar energy back to Galorean. He realizes that the level of energy that will erupt when we land is on the scale of a major meteor impact. The return effects as a rip in reality and we arrive about 15 feet above the water.

Ricken then, with difficulty, teleports us back to the level above the lab.

Praetorius walks upstairs and his hellknights were very concerned that we all died because the night haunts reportedly overwhelmed us. Then they tell him that the other garrison of hellknights has been killed. Praetorius talks to him for a while and they decide to have his garrison blow the horn to recall all patrols. When Carl, his second, gets back, he has orders to come down to the crypt to talk to Praetorius.

They agree that the hellknights are going to prepare for siege and hole up. Patrols are only to resume during the day. Night patrols if there are volunteers.

Ricken summons Curator, but he acts all weird. He tells Ricken that it would probably be best if we never go back to the celestial plane. He seems distracted and not himself. He seems weak and suggests that they may have tried to make him forget. There was a group of angels that worked on him. Because we went to other planes, there are now others that have the ability to travel between planes. Ricken appears to have opened a door to planar travel. Ricken asks who and Curator says that the mayor. He said that the angels said that the leader would now have access to their portals, or something like that. Curator didn't really understand what it was, but that's what they said. It's like the presence of us in that plane caused problems.

Curator asks that he not be sent back, so Verus spends the day making a Planar Anchor amulet for him.

Oh, and apparently, Verus has to read a big contract.
