Grid Notes - August 5, 2486

  • The economy is holding steady for the fifth quarter in Hammer's Star. While the hoped for growth with the new jobs of VoidCorp did not happen, officials are still hopeful there might be some growth soon.
  • Rumors of a new colony being set up on Meriden are being denied by the stellar nations. No representatives could be reach for further comments.
  • The Archangel Trading Consortium, Ltd., added another vessel to their group. It's already made several supply runs in system as well as helping with cargo runs. It's known the ship was acquired via salvage rights after the group successfully defended themselves from pirates.
  • The governor's office wants to assure people that he has not been replaced by a duplicate and that listening to the rantings of a Grid conspiracy theorist such as Preacher is never a good idea.
  • Avatar, the independent Grid reporter, reports on his site that a new source of rhodium has been found and several corporations and vying for it's control.
  • The governor's office assures everyone that there have been no sightings of any unknown ships. They hope that everyone will stop spreading this rumor as it doesn't help and is completely unsubstantiated.
  • In gossip news, Molly Jansen, secretary to the governor, says it's too soon to be talking engagement but she did say things are getting serious with her boyfriend.
  • The terrorist group, Sons of Sol, have indicated that they will be making a demonstration soon, to show how the government is unable to protect its people. The governor has replied saying that they have several leads on multiple cells in the Hammer's Star system and will be taking every effort they can to make sure people are safe.
  • Rigunmor Star Consortium has announced a new find of great technological importance but is keeping everything under wraps at the moment. They did hint at a new weapon type they were developing and might be ready to show a prototype.
  • The Orion League wants to remind any disgruntled VoidCorp employees that they can find refuge working for the Orions. VoidCorp issued a statement saying they have no disgruntled employees and that working for Orion is worse than doing the work of sewage robots.

DM Notes

  • The idea is that these are some news snippets from the Grid. I hope to do them weekly, especially if we pass enough time as we did. Nudging me to do some is good. Further, I am looking for ideas. What types of news things would the characters want to see? What types of things would the players like to see? Give me ideas! Please!
  • Avatar is a "known" Grid reporter in the Verge. A lot of the Star*Drive books were written as if they were news reports and from him. My thought is that there is an "Avatar" in each system that works with the other system's Avatar's to keep a united front. However, it's a pretty secretive organization otherwise. It's not malicious in that it only wants to post the facts as they find them.
  • Preacher is a known Hammer's Star conspiracy nut. Same for BlackGrid, PeoplesMan and TheProfessor. Sons of Sol, Free Humans, The One True God, and the Grailnauts are all terrorist groups with various agendas.
