Filler - Part 3

March 27, 2007

The group talks about it at length, discussing what they can bring to the table and ideas. They knew they had several hours before the raid party would be back, so weren't too worried about them. However, the cave had at least 25' of a 4' wide hallway, and charging would be suicidal. They tossed around several ideas of what they should do.

They finally decided on having Duece put illusions on Julia, Victor and Eric. The three of them would use the disguises to get close to the leader and attack. Once they started the attack, the other three would come down the hallway as fast as they could to attack from the rear.

And for the most part, that's how it went. The disguised group did get asked to join a table for some drinks, and they did for a while. Then Eric got up, went to toast the leader and attacked.

This is probably the most damage Eric has taken in a battle. The leader and the mage attacked him while the other bandits attacked the rest. The mage tried to summon in some tough hellish dogs (like the dogs from Chronicles of Riddick) but only managed to summon one and it was banished by Laelorin. The minor bandits were taken out by Victor pretty well. The only bad part was the lightning bolt by the mage. He managed to catch all of the PCs but Victor in it, nearly killing Duece, Eric and Julia. Victor and Reece managed to take him and the remaining bandit out.

They took out the raid party on its way back as well and then grabbed the loot and headed back to Arabel. They thought about trying to continue from there but realized they couldn't, not just yet. So, they went back to Arabel and split up the loot.

Notes

  • The battle was quite fun and exciting. The lightning bolt, in Alternity terms, would have killed Duece but he saved himself with a Drama Point. The others were all hit pretty bad as well. It was luck that lined up the PCs with no bad guys.
  • I used a lizard type figure for the summoned monster but thought the image of the dogs from Chronicles of Riddick was cool enough to use those. It was supposed to be more effective but when it was banished, that's that.
  • And the rest of the time, they identified and split up the treasure. As Kevin didn't see Victor using any items that Victor didn't know what they were, it made most sense to go back and have them identified.
  • They got a lot of good items, in DND terms. And the funny thing is, they thought it was way too much! A few of the items, again powerful in DND terms, they, both player and character, were very eh about it. It was interesting and cool to see.
