Silverymoon Shenanigans

November 16, 2020

We start in the basement of the manor house as the servants are starting to sit up.  They are obviously undead.  At first, Shyrrik tightens his grip on his bow and pulls back but then stops.  He lets up on the arrow without shooting.  They are undead but are moving slow.  Maybe back at the graveyard, he would have shot first but now he wonders.  Can we save them?  He motions Dakxer forward.  This is not typically Sharindlar's area.  Dancing, merriment, and romantic love.  She also espouses healing and mercy, though, and he realizes he wants to try.  Dakxer starts by sending out a healing wave.  Normally, with something like this, it would hurt undead.  This ... didn't.  It calmed them and created a connection to them.  Dakxer knew what he had to do and so he pushed energy out to the servants, the ones he had connected to, and let his goddess do the rest.  Faith.  It worked.  The pallor improved, wounds healed, and fangs that had been starting to grow retreated.  They were still shaken but better.

Volhoric hears the whispered plea for help.  He moves over to the secret door and opens it, remembering how to do it.  Inside, the room was mostly as he remembered it but this time in the circles of magic were people.  All dressed as adventurers and the nearest one was motioning for help.

"Potion ... or healing," she whispers.  Volhoric steps closer and see there are potions on her belt but she has so many cuts and scraps, it's no wonder she can move well.  Two deep cuts on her upper arm probably sliced muscle there and maybe nerves, as her fingers and hand twitched.  He grabbed a potion, hoping that she uses the standard marks for healing, and gives it to her.  That's when he noticed how many cuts were on her.  Dozens.  Maybe more.  Someone toyed with her probably getting the big cuts first then taunting her.

Dakxer moved forward and Shyrrk, Drewgan and Raz helped hold the servants back.  Dakxer might have been able to do it as he again channeled and seemed to make a connection to the remaining servants who were still undead.  Again, guided by faith in his goddess and calling on her to help them, he pushes healing toward them and like their friends, their pallor improves, bodies heal, and they take breath again.  Dakxer figured he would be tired after that but felt energized!  Then he hears Volhoric calling for him and goes to find him.

Volhoric calls out Dakxer's name again and brings another potion of hers to her lips.  She drinks but the muscles still haven't been healed.  She's not in danger of dying anymore but can't move well.  Dakxer appears, wands in hand, and heals her.  Both wands go into healing the muscles and she feels much better.

"Thanks," she says a bit hoarse.  "I'm Claire.  The High Mage's guard.  He's been taken.  And ... and... we lost Hannah and Fiona.  We were in a clearing with dead dragons trying to find him, following a trail.  Past the dragons was a cave and we went into it.  My eyes hadn't adjusted," as Volhoric notices she's part elf as she stands up, "when we got hit hard.  Blasts of fire and lightning came on top of us.  I think they knew to hit Hannah and Fiona first.  I didn't even see anyone before the gashes on my arm happened and I was down.  I only vaguely remember the rest of the cuts.  It was so distant.  Somehow Anne Marie activated or cast something and the three of us were here."

Dakxer had gone up and back on the circles healing the others.  He noticed that they were getting up.  Just stopped whimpering and were looking around.  "Do you know what happened to them," he asks Claire, as he heals her again.  As Claire shakes her head no, Dakxer says, "Well, unless I'm mistaken, someone used Marcus' tricks on them and feebleminded them.  And I don't have the spells needed to break it today.  Perhaps tomorrow."

Claire tells her story again and they gather them up.  Raz and Shyrrik get the servants working on food and rooms, to take their minds of what had happened to them.  Soon, they have a bit of food and their rooms are ready.  Claire takes Rosemarie and Anne Marie into a bedroom and thanks them.  The group decided to stay in case there is another attack.

The next day, they talk more to Claire.  When they say they are going to go back to the caves to find the High Mage, Claire encourages them to go.  "Even if you removed the feeblemind now, they would still need to rest and learn spells.  We wouldn't be ready to go until tomorrow.  I would rather know that you are trying to find out what is happening with the High Mage."  The group nods and heads out.

Drewgan is able to find a tree in town that connects to the smaller woods outside of the Evermoors.  At least they won't have the two hour walk!  He activates the rod and soon they are back at the clearing.  The dragons bodies are not as they left them.  Most are stripped of flesh already, Shyrrik and Raz see tracks of many predators around getting their fill of the meat.  However, some ribs, teeth, and bigger bonus are also gone.  Someone got trophies or components.  They head to the cave.

The top part is a small room with a shaft going down.  As they arrive on the lower level, the ground itself has that mushroom poison all over.  Hallucinogenic and maybe worse?  While they don't want to dawdle, they also are strong enough in mind and body not to be overcome by the poison and keep going.  There are voices and Drewgan talks to someone before they are revaled.

Drider!

It might have been more difficult but Dregan creates a wall of fire extending down the corridor, separating the drider.  This decides it for them, and they retreat, trying to find a better position, rather than run forward.  However, the group immediately pursues and keeps up the pressure.  Several Drider go down before they even got clear of the wall.  Another few go down just past the wall.  One gets away.

The group cautiously advances.

GM Notes

  • d20Pro had problems.  Zoom was a bit flaky as well as my internet.
    • New version of d20Pro out and is supposed to deal with network issues.
    • We are all updated as of Thursday and I am hopeful.
  • A lot more role playing and opportunities to do so, which I like.
    • Helping people instead of attacking.
    • I really enjoyed the details as well.
  • I did expect the Drider to do better but the fire really was a good idea.
    • Their main tactic was going to be webs to block people into areas but fire burns it.
    • They had spell casters but were split up just enough that they couldn't do much with it.
  • I did get a fun compliment.  I used a new (bad) accent for the drider and they wanted to talk to them and not attack.
    • No one with that kind of accent could be that tough!
    • It's like my bad Norwegian accent for frost giants!
