The group rests a bit after the fight with the drow but Qynn sees the trail of the group that left the camp.  They follow it with Elthieren leading the way, a few hundred feet out.  They work out a quick system to send messages back and forth between them.  After forty minutes, Elthieren sees fighting up ahead between the drow and some Green (wild) elves.  He quickly signals the rest of the group that he found them and then runs up into combat.

Unfortunately for him, the only ones in back were the matron and her spider guardians!  And she summons several others to her!  Soon, it is Elthieren and four drow plus two spiders.  The rest of the group sprints up as fast as they can and joins in the fight.  Elthieren had strategically retreated but jumped back into the fight when the group came up.  And his fighting was so good, it called up an ancestor of his to help in the fight!  The matron sees that she is getting hit hard and turns to run but is cut down by Qynn and Elthieren’s ancestor.  Once that happens, the rest of the drow leave quickly.

At the end of the fight, Elthieren’s ancestor turns to him and offers his weapon.  When Elthieren grabs it, it turns into a broken moonblade, the lost blade of his family!  He bows to his ancestor and gets the sense that he might yet prove worthy to wield it.

The group meets up with the green elves.  Paelias and Elthieren try not to make too much fun of them for their ways.  However, to the rest, the language sounds as lyrical and they are as graceful as the two elves they travel with.  But it’s obvious to the group what Paelias and Elthieren think of the other elves.  The elves invite them to their village and give them a feast and honor them as best they can.   The elves ask if they could expect more fights and are told yes.  The elves do what they can to prepare for this.

The group gets a good rest and then sets out the next day to track the drow.  Qynn has some good natural ability to see tracks but it’s tougher in the wilderness.  After tracking them over two days, with the group falling more and more behind, until they find the cave where the drow entered.  They go a few hundred yards into it, with it descending into the mountains, and finding a large cave with several exits.  It’s obvious which one the drow went into after camping but the group isn’t wanting to follow them further.  Counting it as a lost, they head back.

They are a few miles from the dragon’s cave, although it takes over an hour in the tough mountainous terrain to get there.  The dragon shows up eventually and looks at the heads they offer.  It is quite pleased as it recognizes all of the drow scents as having been in her lair, and is also pleased at the matrons head.  It flattens a few heads and takes the rest with it, offering twenty thousand gold to the group as compensation.  They accept and she hands it over in gems.  As she turns to leave, they ask if she is still willing to pay for more that they bring her in the bag of holding.  She somehow pulls the bag to her and says their arrangement is over.  A bit dejected, the group heads out into the forest and toward the coast.

After a tenday of traveling, they finally come to Port Llast.  The guard greets them warmly and eventually recognizes them as the heroes of Neverwinter from the tales he has heard from a group of Zhentarim that arrived.  The group is confused that the Zhentarim was speaking so well about them and decide to check this out.  They thank the guard for his information about the town and head to the Jack and Saber, the only tavern in town.  They find the Zhentarim there talking about an adventure.  However, Paelias is credited for Pelenois’ actions and eventually Pelenois can take no more!  He interrupts to correct the speaker and tell him what happened.  As they are recognized, again the Zhentarim speak highly of them and say that all will hear how it happened from the heroes themselves!  The group spends the rest of the night carousing and talking about themselves.  Evnetually, they retire to the Inn, the Alliance Arms, to sleep, some with companions and some not.

That night, all of the group have dreams of demons somehow putting demon eggs in them.  The elves see it as something stinging them and injecting the egg that way.  The dwarf is ripped up into pieces and merely used as food.  The tiefling has a succubus, or maybe an incubus, put an egg into him with a kiss.  Qynn senses that he is in danger and the demons are coming to infect him when Torm appears and protects him.  Qynn wakes up and is sweating and still smells the stink of brimstone and feels the heat of the demon prison.  Qynn goes to the others and prays over them, helping all of them escape the nasty dream.  They all have memories of something like this and Qynn performing some ritual that protects them from having demon eggs in them.  Apparently losing their memories didn’t stop this protection, for which they are all grateful!  They can only stare at themselves as they are still waking up and wonder what this means.

GM Notes

  • I really thought the drow fight would be more tough than it was.  However, once the full group was there, it wasn’t much of a challenge.  Part of the reason that the fight went so well for the PCs was I was using a new critical hit and miss system and the critical hit called in an ancestral spirit of the bladesinger.  So, effectively, there were two bladesingers fighting and that was a tough combo.
  • Overall, we really enjoyed the critical hit and miss system!  I will keep using it.  I also found some other third party products that I hope to use and introduce with time.  Good stuff!
  • I wasn’t sure how to show the difference between Green Elves and the Gold Elves of the party.  I made the Green elves out to be “hicks” but that’s not really it.  Again, to the rest of the group, the Green elves are still graceful and beautiful, but I don’t know how to show that in some ways, they are “backward” to the Gold elves.  I think merely saying this, instead of trying to show it, worked out best for me.  I need to read up on this a bit more and get some ideas about it.
  • I am LOVING the setup of the memories and some “lost” time!  It’s really allowing me to have some good story elements, such as being immune to the demons.  I like it a lot!
