The Ruins

July 19, 2018

The group discusses some options but then decide to head to the north area to take the dragon there.  Maldar is able to shadow walk them to a point within a few miles.

As they are walking through the swamp, Dorn marvels at how the flying, stinging insects aren't near him and in fact move away.  They still have to trudge through the marsh but they must be getting better or more used to it as they have avoided most of the dead ends or areas they would have to slog through.

Turning a bend and climbing out of a grove of trees, the group sees the hill on the map and know they are close.  Michel turns into a song bird and heads over there.  There are some drakes that he recognizes, lying in the sun.  Going close to the hill, there is a single ruined building on the group in front of the hill and a half dozen on top of the hill.  Bodies are around the bottom ruins and what look like scorch marks near the single building.  He goes back and reports to the group.  Curiosity gets the group as they head to the single building.  Maldar and Michel go in front to check it out.

Michel could feel the rot in the area.  Not the normal rot that happens in a marsh but something else just under the surface of the ground.  He wants to stop and check it out but Maldar keeps going forward and Michel keeps going to stay with him.

"This time, I will win," says a raspy, grating voice.  One wall explodes outward and from it, a Death Tyrant!

They all rush forward to attack.  Eye blasts hit several times, more times than they liked, and their rings shield them all from an attack here and there but does wear them down.  It's not dead before the next creature shows up, a Death Knight riding a nightmare.  The first thing the Death Knight does is create zombies from the corpses on the ground, sending Jinn away from the new creatures.

As the Death Knight is defeated, the dragon appears!  However, it only takes a few attacks at Jinn, trying to take Jinn down and to no avail, before leaving and heading to the ruins.  The group watches as it flies to the ruins and now looks at each other

GM Notes

  • Sadly, there was less role playing this time around.  Not that that is a bad thing but I do need to work on that.  The outer guardians don't talk.
  • I think the fight went well, in terms of it being close and worrying to the players.
  • Need to prepare better for next week.
