Orcs Everywhere

July 30, 2020

The group is finishing up against an orc scouting party.  They realize they don't have time to deal with the bodies as thoroughly as they prefer because other scouting parties might see them.  They make haste and get going.  They continue their quest to find the orc camp that Esma told them about.

After traveling a few hours, they see another group of orcs.  They decide to attack and take them out.  Afterward, they head the wrong direction a couple of times and soon backtrack to the battlefield of the orcs to find most of the bodies missing.  Rolen can tell large claw marks of a lizard are around.  They don't have to wonder too long when a wyvern drops down to the ground.  Maybe it was just interested in the few orc bodies left but the group attacks it and then it is a fight.  They take it out but as they start to search it, the mate and another appear and they have to fight those as well!

The wyverns didn't hit that often and also didn't manage to lift and drop like they wanted to do so.  Had all three been there at once, it might have been a different fight but as it was, this was a one-sided fight.  They decide to quickly grab a few pieces from the wyverns, like the stingers, that would be valuable and then keep going.

They see another group of orcs and again move to ambush.  Sadly, this time they aren't as quiet and have to rush the last little bit to get to them but take them out.  And that's when the ambush happens!  Multiple groups of orcs start coming in from several different sides, attacking with bow and readying steel.

And that's when d20Pro 3.9 finally died.  It was frustrating so we ended.

GM Notes

  • d20Pro v3.9 had done so well with the Monday group that I was NOT expecting the errors and problems we had on Thursday.
    • Several times, it was as if all player games, local or not, were not connected.
    • My local game properly loaded up DND 5E rules but the rest of the players saw PF1 rules.
    • Things would get queued up and then we would have to wait.  The DM game was five or ten moves ahead of the players, even my local player, and then four or fives moves would play.  I'm not sure it ever fully synced properly.
    • Eventually, when an attack that was supposed to be a ranged attack up and to the right actually attacked up and to the left?  That was it and I called it.
    • I have been talking to tech support about it.  It was GenCon over the weekend but I hope to hear from them if they can figure out what happened in that game since the Monday game went well.
    • In the meantime, I put them back on 3.7.8 so that we can at least play next time.
  • The problems with the VT really made it tough to get any momentum going.  When I'm trying to describe what I see on the GM side but then notice on my player instance that it isn't caught up, ruined the flow.
  • We ended with the ambush about to happen.
  • I gave them a level, base of level six, for next time.  We rolled hit points, discussed a bit, and then left it.
