FR - 5E - Ambush

Ambush

 

January 2, 2019 

 

The group is at Baergon Bluesword's house.  Dorn asks for training and watches as Baergon leaves to go into the next room.  That's when Dorn realizes it isn't Baergon!  That was a human and Baergon is a half elf.  Dorn barely has time to hiss that under his breath to the others, when "Baergon" comes back to the room with practice swords and starts sparring with Dorn.  The others take up positions around the room.  As Dorn has to back away from a series of attacks, feints, and counters, Dorn finds himself wondering if this is Baergon or not.  Dorn regains his balance, though, and pretty quickly has the upper hand, which this "Baergon" can't get back.  It doesn't take long for the group to get him to admit he's not Baergon.  That's when he tries to escape out the window!  

 

And misses.  

 

Interrogating him more, he doesn't know much.  He's not sure what happened with the real one, he was just supposed to take his place.  And then makes a break for it!  Back to the window!

 

And misses.  

 

The group nearly lost it at how he can't make it out the window.  They end up releasing him, checking out the house, and then moving onto the next item.  

 

From there, they went to the jail to ask a few questions of the guard, Gina.  After that, they realized that they could only go to one more place before they need to go to Commander Miller's for supper and to explain what happened.  They have many things they want to do but realize that they should probably follow up on the attacks on the high priests, so decide to go to Bando the Lame's house.  They discuss several options but decide to have Tyrel be the one to talk.  As he knocks on the door, they are sucked into the house!  

 

They find themselves in the basement, with creatures in circles.  One starts to talk but Jinn casts a spell and that starts a fight!  After defeating the ones in the basement, the fake Bando is upstairs and also fights them!  They again get some information from this fake Bando before letting him go.  

 

Afterward, they go to Commander Miller's for supper, then back to the tenement house.  Commander Miller mentions that she had someone go to the crypt with Arakus' body and Darfen was not happy about digging it up as he needs to redo the wards that were put on it again.  They did find a body in the coffin made for Arakus.  As they discuss what to do next, they think they will look into some of the other items on the map, or people mentioned in Arakus' notes.

GM Notes

  • The group set many traps for "Baergon" and it worked that he didn't know elvish.  
  • The group felt like they worked together well in the fight in the basement, which was awesome! 
  • The players talk about how they are almost going day by day in the game.  That can happen!
  • I was also happy with the compliment that one player said that if it was a book, they would keep reading it!

These are great Jon! All though I had been on the wiki before, I didn’t really see the Daggerford link, or if I did I thought it was just the history of the town or something. Thoroughly enjoyed reading all the entries! We’re kind of big damn heroes!
