August 25, 2009

A few days have passed since the news conference. Things have calmed down some for ATC, and the governor is up 15 points in the polls since the announcement. Gabriel says that it will take a few weeks to repair the damage to Archangel. That means, we would all be here during the electrions.

The group gets together, to see what the PI’s have found out. Miseqe says her Seshayan contact had stopped. He found out information that scared him; there were mind readers about, and some other creature that showed up. Also, they figured out that one of the creatures watching the ATC were creatures like the new aliens from the news reports (a Gardhyi – a species that we know is psionic).

The group knows there is one path left on the abstraction that we could check out, but until the repair work of the Archangel is finished, the group can’t go anywhere.

Miseqe decides to go look into the alien that had scared the PI so much.  Myr accompanied her although she doesn’t know it. As he watches, he can’t believe how badly she is hiding as they try to move through the city. As she moves along through the city, she suddenly gets the impression she is being followed. Myr see’s them too, and after a few minutes, they get a call and walk away, leaving her. Myr decides to follow them. They go to a fairly nice business district, pull out some badges to enter one of the businesses there. It’s a large glass fronted building, but Myr still looses them as they enter the building. He isn’t certain where they went but he hangs around a bit to watch for them.

As he is sitting there, he suddenly realizes he has a tail on him. It was a sky car that had passed a couple of times. He noticed a dent on the side, and then it passes again, and again… The car eventually parks and the driver exits. He looks a lot like the people he was tailing, in clothing and demeanor.

After about forty-five minutes, the people he was tailing come back out. Myr doesn’t want to tail them for fear they have been alerted. Just as he is about to leave, the electrical charge from the stun weapon slams into him. He just shakes off being stunned as the power hits him. A four man commando group is running from the building heading in his direction.

As Myr looks around the garage, he realizes he is going to be surrounded. He pulls out a plasma pistol to put down cover fire as he rushes to hide behind a parked car for cover.

Vince, at the political rally, realizes a call has coming from Myr. He smiles at his guests and says “I have to take this, one moment please.”

As he answers the phone, he hears Myr yelling “I need help, I’m BANG BANG BANG” as Vince can’t hear what Myr is saying as gunshots go off through the phone. Vince calmly locates the police chief who is at the party and motions for him to come closer.

Myr is hit three times from rounds that slam into him. He shoots at one of the attackers but the guy didn’t take any damage as the outfit he is wearing absorbs the damage. Myr is not happy about that at all.

Back at the party, Vince shakes hands and makes nice with the police chief. Then, nonchalantly, he leans in and says “sir, there is an incident I need to mention to you right now, can we step away from the party?” Molly, who is there, recognizes the police chief’s confusion and calmly escorts the two to a quiet location. As they move, Vince calls K’nigley and says “Trace Myr’s phone, now, we need to get to him.”

Within a second, K’nigley can tell what the tower is that Myr is hiding behind. Even as he finds this, the conference call is silenced by more gunshot rounds going off. Myr is able to duck behind the vehicle, but he can’t stand up and shoot without taking a hit. So he pulls out a gravitic grenade and throws it blind in the direction where the shots were coming from. The shots end for a second as he lifts his head and tries to shoot back, but they are hidden and none of them gives a good shot.

Back at the party, Vince convinces the chief to send help to Mry, but the chief needs a location. K’nigley was able to narrow it down to 3 blocks square, and send the info to Vince.  The governor walks over to see what is going on.

Myr, hiding, hears the clink of a grenade just before it goes off. Fortunately, it’s a flash-bang and is too far away to affect him. He is starting to get worried as the attackers are slowly but surely starting to close on his position. As he hides, he does hear siren’s off in the distance as more rounds slam into the car. Suddenly, a very strange grenade lands next to him and it goes off.  There is a ripple…but nothing. A bad feeling goes through him as he looks at the charge in his rifle, it is dead. That was an EMP grenade, and both his phone and his plasma rifle are dead.

Myr hears police sirens coming closer.  Gun fire is still coming in and he gets nailed by one of the guys.  He hears one of them say “Alright, we are out of here” the sniper lays down cover fire and the other guys run away.

7 police cars come out of nowhere and everyone jumps out to see what’s going on.  In addition, the ambulance service shows up. “Sir, do you need help?” Blood is pouring through his armor as he gives the guy a stupid look…they take him to the hospital. The wounds were not serious, and he should be out the next day.

Vince, hearing Myr is ok, takes the time to try and do some damage control with the press. The police chief, also realizing that it will look bad for him because a member of ATC was attacked in the city, jumps in front of Vince and makes a big deal about “we will protect them, we don’t put up with this kind of thing in our city” and tries to make it show they are protecting all citizens. Vince, when he does get a chance to speak, also talks up the great reaction by the police and how quickly they were there to help…again, not leaving the chief out in the cold or taking a bad press rap for the incident.

Myr is not too upset about the loss of his pda and phone, but he is really upset about the loss of his plasma pistol. As he leaves the hospital, he can tell he is being followed yet again. Vince had given him a new phone when they had met at the hospital, but not a new weapon. He finally manages to lose his tail and rushes to the apartment.

He calls and lets Vince know as he goes home and immediately grabs a bunch of guns.  As he reaches for his second gun, he thinks the first felt wrong. He pulls it out and looks at it, and sees it is empty. He turns and locks the door. Even as he looks around, other things in the apartment look wrong. He moves through the apartment, and the three obvious guns are all empty. He goes to look for his weapon stash, and they are all gone.

Back at the archangel, the AI walks up to K’nigley. He is back in the robot. “How did you get into that again?” asks K’nigley.

“I don’t know. You fixed it and I was able to get back in. Oh, and who lives at” he rattles off an address.

“Yes, Myr lives there.”

“Well, he won’t live there after the explosion that is about to happen.”

“What?” K’nigley grabs the phone and calls Myr,” Get out of the apartment, a bomb is about to go off there.”

Without thinking, he jumps down a shaft in the closet area he knew about. He can feel a rush of heat follow him down as an explosion expands from above and hot air rushes down the shaft.

The AI recognizes the radioactive decay explosive at all three of the other peoples places, as well as Sonja’s and Rachel’s.  He then says to K’nigley “you have 2 minutes for Max and Gab, but more time for the others.”

Vince hangs up the phone and says to the governor, the chief, and some city council members “Well, that was interesting. You are going to be hearing about some explosions, specifically at ATC member homes.”

The Seshayans come over to Miseqe and say “we found some humans. They were trying to get in, and we took a PDA off of one of them, and it has some names on it.” The names are of the ATC people and their apartments. She doesn’t recognize the addresses, but the names and the notes next to them are enough for her to call K’nigley and let him know. He was already conference in with everyone else, so everyone says yes to the problem.

As K’nigley is about to say something, all lines go down and he is left in the dark. He then hears gunshots going off outside the ships. Some land lines in the ship go off as the guards outside let him know what is happening.

Everyone races towards the Archangel.

Myr calls one of his contacts. The guy is upset that Myr hasn’t talked much, and he yells and hangs up the phone. Myr shows up at the guys place “Listen, I am in need of help, so you are going to do it.”

“I would, but some guys came in and cleared out my entire inventory.”

“Then I need your personal inventory.”

“It’s my last plasma pistol”

“I gotta have it.”

“Fine, here; plasma pistol and two clips plus four grenades. That is all that I have.”

“Really, that is all you have, what about over here…”

Myr goes throughout his apartment, opens secret panels, and pulls out weapons after weapons.

“Look, I have some information, but I need some protection.”

“Fine, ATC will protect you.”

“It was the Triad. They came to me a couple months ago. They were mad and wanted to do something, but they went away. Then they came back, something about “give them no ground to go to.”

“Oh,” says Mry, “you need to come with me.”

Ramón Francisco opens yet another secret panel, pulls out a plasma rifle, and says “we better go out the back way.” They get out to Ramones car, and he looks underneath, stands up and throws the demolition kit to Myr. Working quickly, Myr was able to easily disable it. He throws the bomb into the back seat and they head to the Archangel.

As the members arrive at the dock, the fight is over. Only Max’s apartment exploded.

Myr pulls up. As he drives up to the dock and see’s the governor and the police chief, he drives around behind and they exit the car out of the public eye. As the group looks at the new guy following Mry, they ask “who is this guy?”

He drops two bags onto the ground that he had been carrying and says “I’m the guns.”

Myr lets the group know that the Triad is behind this.

The battle droid almost shoots Ramon as he enters with all the guns. “Stay out of engineering” is all the K’nigley says to him.

Vince takes the time to try and put Molly into a safe location. She doesn’t seem surprised that he is using fake identities for her as she is put up in a hotel. He then has the police check out her place while she is safe.

The police are very embarrassed about what has happened. Although there were only two explosions, but the attack on the dock again was a big deal.

“So should there be something that I should know?” asks the governor to Vince.

“We think the Triad is behind this, but we don’t know why.” Answers Vince.

“Ah, well, I will keep my ears open.”

Miseqe gives the PDA her people found on the humans that were tyring to sneak into Miseqe's home and she gives it to K’nigley to look over.

Myr contacts another one of his weapon sources. He shows a picture of the bomb to the guy. “Wow, who did you piss off? This is Rigenor or Austrenausis? This is pretty high tech stuff. Do you still have this?” says Derek O’Conner.

“Yes, I took it off my car. Why?”

“Make sure it can’t get any radio signals. I’m not exactly certain what the explosive is, but I recognize the tech. It’s the explosive that is the signature that will tell you where it is from.”

The Ai walks up “I think we need to take that apart. I have a theory, but I could be wrong.”

“I’m not real crazy about you doing that here.”

“We can go out into the hanger. Can you disable this?” the AI asks Myr.

They go out into the hanger, and Myr is able to easily open it all the way up. “Ah, I thought I recognized that decay; it’s antimatter.” Says the AI.

“Hey! I can use that for fuel.” Says K’nigley, as Myr rolls his eyes at the one track minded engineer.

K’nigley goes back to the ship, lets everyone know about the antimatter and as he talks to Miseqe he says he thinks it might be from the Gardhyi. He decides to hack into the systems of the Gardhyi. It is easy, way too easy. As he gets into it, there are 17 cameras but the area is completely empty. This made him suspicious.

Concerned, he jumps out of the system and turns on everything he has to protect our systems.  He thinks our systems are good and doesn’t find anything wrong with the Gardhyi stuff as he fails his computer checks.

Gabriel calls over the intercom “The locks on the ships are off so they cannot be released. So, they have to be released manually. “

Myr and Vince go out to unlock the clamps as Gabriel calls in “There are atmospheric ships headed towards Archangel they are not answering calls from Dock control and headed this way fast”

Vince and Max unlock the Horus as Max jumps in and begins pre-checks and immediately lift off.

Myr and Miseqe unlock the Archangels first two locks.

Vince boosts the Quantum cannons to 36 from 24. The pirate ships attack the Archangel hanger. Explosions rattle the building but nothing damages the ship.

K’nigley calls out of the outside speakers “you two need to get inside quickly so I can turn on the shields.”

Max flies at the pirate ships as Vince opens fire. Thanks to the targeting computer, the quantum cannon connect for 117 points damage.

More explosions rain upon the hanger, fully destroying it as the Archangel is now seen.

Miseqe can sense the people in the attacking ships. She dazes the gunner and this run he doesn’t drop the bombs he has.

Max does a 180 with the ship, moves between the attack ships and the Archangel. Vince hits for 123 poitns damage and 168 points of damage in his two attacks, and 75 from Max’s particle cannon attack.

Gabriel is able to get the Archangel out of the hanger without any issue and shoots at the retreating ship with a missile, destroying it as the audible concussion can be heard through the atmosphere.

K’nigley boosts the shields as Myr attacks the second ship. Max, jinking, just about runs into the laser as it hits the second attacker for 103.

Miseqe tries to daze the gunner, but fails due to the distance.

The attacker goes onto a collision course towards Archangel but gave Max a free attack as they pass the Horus, taking 160 points damage. The Horus moves right up behind the fleeing ship, shooting at the engines for 187 points damage as Max misses the 3rd engine.

Gabriel takes the Archangel directly in front of the attacking ship, has Myr take out the engine as K’nigley activates the tractor beam and Gabriel calls out “surrender your ship, now.”

Miseqe senses they are about to activate the self destruct. She slams some psyonic energy into the person doing that who turns out to be the captain, and he is dazed and not sure what to do.

“There is something wrong with our captain, but I think he was going to surrender.”

Gabriel doesn’t believe the person on the communication line, as Miseqe tells Gabriel about the self destruct.

Miseqe senses that there is something wrong with the mental connection. She senses that there are two consciousnesses in the captain, as she shoves the daze back onto the captain with a massive slam. The second entity tries to attack her mentally, but she resists it.

As Gabriel tries to use the tractor beam to pull the ship down, the Horus tries to help, only he gets in the way and the ship pulls away.

The pilot shakes off the daze and begins the self destruct sequence while the co-pilot is fighting him.

Gabriel easily gets control of the escaped ship again and get it into the tractor beam.

Myr jumps out of Archangel and lands on the escaping ship. He lands and is able to blow the door open, getting inside. The co-pilot moves out of the way as Myr draws and shoots the pilot for 23 points damage. The pilot shoots at the same time but misses Myr. The force of the impact pushes the body back against the glass of the cockpit as the body falls to the floor.

Once the ship lands, Myr has the co-pilot leave the ship.  As he turns around and looks, he can see the pilot’s body trying to activate the self-destruct. Myr walks over and grabs the boot of the pilot and tries to pull the pilot out of the ship.

The captain breaks free of the grasp and moves towards the console again. Myr opens fire on the dead captain again. He is hit, but still typing on the console.

Max grabs the co-pilot and takes him outside, covering him with his pistol.

Vince rushes up and grapples the captain, keeping him from pressing the keys. He suddenly spins around opens his mouth. Suddenly, a bunch of tiny worms shoot out and start burrowing into Vinces face.

Vince reels back stunned, just standing there as Myr can tell his skin is moving unnaturally.

Myr pulls out his stun gun and shoots him, dropping him.

Miseqe flies down and helps bring Vince back to the ship.

The captains dead body is left next to Max, who is watching the freaking out co-pilot as he looks at the captains body.

The medical droid tries to help Vince, but he fails. Miseqe tries to stun the worms with a mental attack. She doesn’t manage to stun them but does slow them down.

The addition of her help was enough for Vince to throw off the effect and avoid being possessed by the worms.

The medical droid said “the captain said he sent for an ambulance, so…” and injects Vince with something that will get rid of the worms.

Police show up and take the co-pilot away. The police mention the other two pilots survived the crash. The police also take the ship, because we are not in space and we can’t claim everything we find.

Once everyone is gone, the governor alone comes to the group. Molly is the only person with him.

He asks “what was this all about.”

“I have no idea what this is all about. “answers Gabriel.

“So, can I expect more of this?”

“We will stick around, but we will be extra cautious.” Says Gabriel.

Nothing over the next couple of days is found out. The governor is able to win by a huge margin in the elections.

Melisa is very gracious, calls and congratulates him.

Molly is very happy making many plans with Vince.

The governor calls and talks about future plans with ATC.

The ships are all repaired, and the team is ready for whatever lies ahead....

GM Notes

  • I felt better about this session.  However, there were still a few things that didn't work for me but I think that's the system.  I should have used the SW Saga system without Jedi.  Hmm. Or with, actually, and use those ideas for psionic abilities.  Hmm.  We can probably do this at any time, if it looks like that's a better way to go.
  • I was very loose with some things and that unfortunately confused the new player.  I need to take her through the basics and then any specifics of what I do so that she better understands the process.  It's been a LONG time since I have had someone who doesn't know anything about RPGs!
  • I thought there was good drama but it was a bit disconnected as the characters were spread out.  We got them together soon enough but it could have been more smooth.
  • I like the mis-direction this set up and look forward to doing more!
