Kalak's End and Ka'l'ik's Beginning

July 10, 2012

Berry missed tonight. Mike started a new Thri'kreen tonight named Ka'l'ik.

As a retcon, Zon reaches into the water in the hallway to pull Vogal out and grabs a hold of something hard. It's the exoskeleton of a thri'kreen. He looks at Zon and says, "cousin." After some language barriers, we discover that he's the thri'kreen that helped Zon across the countryside when he ran away from the slavers. He refers to the group as his 'clutch' or family. He says that Damerin sent him here and told him that we were his new clutch.

Vahn meanders around and finds a tapestry in which the scene is moving. There are people he knows in it, and it's depicting a slaving scene of the creation of the ziggurat. He doesn't seem to know what to make of it, and looks on to the next area. He sees an area that would allow him to walk through this door and since he beat the physical test, he could walk into paradise for the rest of his life. However, he realizes that because of the happenings in Tyr, it would probably only last a couple of decades at the best.

Ka'l'ik points to the tapestry and says that he protects the cultivated area around Tyr. He calls himself a druid.

After a while, Zon realizes that he knows Ka'l'ik and introduces him. Then Vahn calls us into the room with the tapestry and we go in to look. We all recognize some people within the tapestry scene. These people are people that we haven't seen for at least a week. This seems to be showing us the present scene. At that point the tapestry puts in our mind that a very powerful moment with the ziggurat and the arena, involving Kalak. We will be given the opportunity to save Kalak or kill him. Ka'l'ik asks the tapestry what happens to his lands if Kalak lives or dies. It responds that if Kalak dies, there will be a time of confusion and violence but it will resolve and the lands will be fine. If he lives, there will be a time of darkness but that the land will mostly be left intact. We all choose, in our minds, to kill him.

When we've all made up our minds, a wooden spear comes out of the tapestry. Both ends are sharpened. When Zon grabs the spear, he gets a sense of when to throw it. None of us will be given the credit for killing him and only a few will know the truth. We seem to receive some sort of blessing and two doors appear. One will take us out of the temple and send us on our way. The other will be more difficult. Also, the door to paradise is available. The group chooses the more difficult door.

On the other side of the door, there's another tapestry and the door to paradise.

The tapestry shows us the slaver house, House Yanto. This house's leader and wife are ruthless and sadistic. They have a defiler and necromancer performing experiments on the slaves. The tapestry shows us where his plantation south of town is, and the inside house. It seems to be showing us some of his worst depravities. It's pretty obvious that it wants us to deal with this house.

After the message is delivered from the tapestry, two more doors appear. One leading out, one leading further difficult. Zon walks over to the more difficult door and says, "this is where we're going, isn't it?" in a rather somber, defeated voice. Vahn joins him and Zon sighs and resigns himself to it.

In the next room, there is a table. The paradise door is no longer an option, nor are there any other doors. As we approach the table, we are presented with the choice of riches or knowledge. Zon wants to be smart. We are shown deeds and papers of nobles as riches and a book on fighting defilers and preserving the land.

At this point we are each given the choice of Life-Shaping or arcane knowledge of how to fight defilers. Even though thri'kreen can't be a conduit for arcane energy, Ka'l'ik senses that it's still a valid choice.

Zon is the only one that chooses Life-Shaping. A couple of places near Tyr have materials and cache of items. He also learns a language. It is described as

Arcane knowledge grants the knowledge on defiling and preserving. This knowledge lets them look at someone and see their tendencies to defiling or preserving. They can gather energy like a preserver, number charges equal to Con score, and release it as magic missile d4/charge force damage at 400 ft range. On touch they can heal 2pts/charge. It takes Con Mod/turn in a place with plants to pull in one charge. If defiling, it's 1/3 Con per round. A Charisma check can turn the type into elemental.

Defilers cannot heal, but each point spent is d8 as any type damage.

We all know a ritual that will heal defiled land.

We then head out the exit. As we leave, we are totally healed of all damage. This was also a hallway of water, but we could breathe and we were calm and collected. We come out of the hall to arrive back at the place where Damerin brought us in. He makes a note of the fact that Vogal is missing but Ka'l'ick found them.

In our dreams, we have four days. We have to be in the arena ready for Kalak.

We then leave the shelter and climb the stairs back up to the river bed.

We head back to the Rude Rooster, and we find out that over a thousand people were gathered up. And the templars annouce that in four days, there will be games for Kalak at the arena.

A Blood Clot heals one hp immediately and stops bleeding. Over the next 10 hours you heal one hp per hour. Zon asks for volunteers to help give blood so that he can create some blood clots. He gets five volunteers to help him and after realizing that there was no pain, one other volunteers.

Vahn heads into the arena ahead of time to hide our weapons. Ka'l'ik goes out every day to bring back food. He also finds a way to present himself as delivering produce.

Tibian, Kalak's head templar, announces Rikus and Neeva, a mul and human gladiator start a fight. At some point in the fight, preserving magic, psionic magic, even templar magic and several other things attack Kalak at the same time. At one point both Zon and Rikus throw spears at Kalak and hit him. It appears as though Rikus kills him, as no one can actually perceive Zon's special spear. At the point Kalak is killed, pandemonium ensues. Kalak was trying to bypass his ascension to full dragon by sacrificing all 200 people. When he started that ritual, all people who could, realized what he was doing and fought back. At the right time, Zon got the notice to throw the spear. All the others attacking would have failed if Zon had not thrown the spear.

Kalak is dead. There is a major power vacuum in the city. During this time, House Yanto is taking advantage of this distraction and stealing people and rushing them outside the city. Meanwhile, some of the "heros of Tyr" were slaves and wanted to abolish the slave practice.

During that time, the Rude Rooster has become a safe haven, due to us scaring off the troublemakers. We, as a group, aren't going hungry and are treated well for helping. There is a sort of community that spawns up around the Rooster.

Eventually, the templars regain the ability to regain control and patrols, with the leadership of Tibian.

Every day we just know how many more people have been taken by House Yanto. That is the price of taking on that information. Until the house it taken it will be this way.

We decide that on the third morning after Kalak's death it's time to start dealing with House Yanto. We wake up that day knowing they had taken 35 people.

We leave town and head to the ruins to the south of town. In an area where a cliff has a carved temple in it. We know of a secret entrance that can be used by using magic to open.  Vahn tells Ka'l'ick to put a charge of magic into the secret doors and it opens. Stairs go down and it smells like stale air, rot, and mildew.

The stairs get pretty tight for Zon, but once he goes down there is a hallway coming off a landing. The doors in this hallway are made of wood and bone, bound with leather. All of this is still in good shape, even though there seems like it should all be rotting. As the others are inspecting one door, Zon opens the other. A partially rotting hand slashes out at his arm.

Round 1

Ka'l'ik attacks and fails.

Vahn looks between Zon's legs to see what he can, and he notices that when Zon opens the door, all the doors down the hall click, as if unlocking.

Dro'van holds his action at the stairs.
