Unfettered
September 12, 2012
We arrive back into the hallway, but it is now totally dark and has no echo at all. Dro'van somehow pushes energy into his new sword and creates light. We see many more doors and we head back to the door to the stables and head back through.
When we get back, everyone groaned because they were betting against us. They notice Zon's new metal lotulis and start talking and asking us questions. We mostly ignore them, then head back to the Rude Rooster. We ask Nat to meet us there.
Vahn looks at Zon's new Lotulis and shows him that he can't really make use of it without magic.
That night we are quite popular and people keep asking Zon to tell the story about where he found his lotulis. Dro'van has been pretty insient that he remain quiet, so he disappoints everyone.
The next morning, Nat is already there and has a huge feast ready for Zon and the rest. We get prepared and head back to the zig. We make a 50sp wager at 3-1 odds that will pay if we make it back after second bell tomorrow.
We head back down the ramp and the secret door has been opened and disabled. As we go down the stairs we notice that the trap on the landing has been tripped and the landing is gone. Where is was is a very deep hole. There is a blood trail leading down the stairs and there are centipedes and flies and other insects swarming around the blood. This is rather strange. As we get closer, Vahn can "smell" shadow magic in the area. He considers several options to figure out what happened here, but decides that moving forward is more important.
The door to the stable seems to have been disturbed as well, and inside there are four dead bodies, three humans and a half-elf. There appears to have been combat here, but uncertain as to whether they were fighting each other or they were attacked. After examining the room, Vahn seems to decide that something came out of the gateway and killed these people. He opens the gateway, but with great difficulty and it seems to be kind of oily with shadow magic.
In the hallway, we find a large pool of blood, fresh. As we notice how fresh it is and begin to prepare, 8 mhorgs attack. They are hideous creatures with vacant chest cavities and their innards pulled out and wrapped around their heads and bodies.

End battle
After the battle, we decide that they must have clubbed the people in the stable and then sucked their blood out of their bodies. We find some pouches and spell components and random other stuff.
We all approach the door he was in front of and rest up a little before traveling through the door.
We step out into a huge room. The room appears to be 200 yds across and 100 yds long. There are 8 columns 50' across, and there are bodies EVERYWHERE around the entrance. Shadow magic is permeating everything here and sigils are all over the portal area. The whole room is lit and made of stone and there is a fine layer of silt over the floor. There is a fair amount of foot prints all over the place. There are obviously two huge double doors at the end.
We go to the double doors and notice that they are not completely shut. There is a long hallway to the outside beyond the door. We see that there is blowing silt all over. Everyone finds a cloth to cover their noses and mouths, but Zon uses life-shaping to create specialized gills to allow him to breath.
From the outside, we see that the building we just came out of is a kind of arena with a semi-transparent ceiling that allows people to see down into it from above.
The city outside is a city of the dead. Zombies and skeletons walk the streets and one bumps into Zon and seems to apologize. This throws us as we weren't expeciting intellect from them.
We see a mul zombie pulling 6 living people chained together as slaves. As Dro'van raises his sword to cut the chain, a human male in robes talks. We talk and he realizes we are from Tyr. He tells us that we are in the city of Bodach. It is west and a little north of Tyr.
He says he is also a visitor, his name is Erenlum.
4 pts.
GM Notes
- I'm liking Nat. I'm not rolling well for her but I think I get a sense of her, and that's fun.
- I'm trying to remember to take it slow but my sense of verisimilitude is fighting with my sense of drama and timing! But, I can be patient. It's what would also make the campaign last longer and I like that idea.
- The vorpal weapon is as effective here, or moreso which is more like what it should be, than in 4E, which is cool to watch. And I think players like that sort of thing.
- I also liked the life shaping and how that worked out. Again, the idea of those powers wasn't to make it tough but more fun and give them options. I think Brook and I are finally starting to explore that option but we have to keep doing it.
