Return of Tekralus

August 16, 2012

Berry missed tonight's game.

We discussed our individual talents with respect to spells and life-shaping stuff.

A couple of weeks are spent in training with Vizier and pulling guard duty for Ranis.

  • Some policy regarding the slave's was discussed about how a slave can be granted their freedom at one year and one day of slavery in this region.
  • Ranis is likely to be voted into the senate as a representative from her area.
A guy named Territ, who was involved with Tekralus' theatre, shows up and speaks with Vahn. He brings information about Tekralus having been seen going into the theatre. He says there are lights on and that is out of the ordinary. We leave that night after closing to go to the theatre to investigate. Zon walks down the main road to get there, but Vahn and Dro'van flank on opposite sides, staying stealthy.
Vahn finds a guard acting like a bum, and stakes his head to the wall with an arrow. -6 on his roll.
Zon breaks in the front door and receives a huge shock. He also is shot from a crossbow behind him. He goes through, pushes in the second, interior doors and jumps out of the way as a lightning bolt blows the door off the jam. Vahn casts an illusion of Zon coming out of the bolt hole that Tekralus is heading towards as Dro'van hits Tekralus in the throat with an arrow. Jon give's John a last resort point to allow him to live.

Battle Begins

Dro'van puts another arrow through Tekralus' neck.
Vahn creates casts a spell on Tekralus that makes him think Dro'van is his most feared enemy.
Dro'van attacks #1 secondary defiler guy and hurts him.
Vahn fires from the curtain and hits #2 defiler.
Dro'van attacks and kills #3 defiler.
Zon runs in from the entrance, past the guy with the wand and right into the midst of the dying guys.
The wand dude fires at Zon and hits him, but Zon's Dermal Plating absorbs it all.
#1 defiler casts a spell and he and Tekralus teleport out.
#2 shoots fire from his hands and hits Zon but does no damage.
Wand dude shoots magic missles and hits Zon for 5W total.
Vahn moves for a better shot at Wand dude for 3M
Zon spins around and hits #2 with his Trikal for 8W
Vahn does 2M to #2 from cover.
Dro'van finishes him off.
After the battle, Vahn wants to question #3. Zon grabs his hands and holds him up to prevent him from casting and he doesn't want to talk. Zon then brings his arms down and hugs him as he makes his skin become spiky and pushes them into the defiler's body. He tries to cast a defensive spell, but Vahn counters it very effectively. Very shortly he passes out and very quickly dies from the wounds. Vahn steps away from Zon and his spiky skin, guardedly.
A dozen people burst into the theatre yelling and asking if Zon is ok. However, when he turns around and has his dermal plating and spikes coming out of him, with blood all down his front, most turn running, and the rest are wetting themselves and quivering as they finally give up and turn and run too. This could be bad.
Zon goes to the curtains and rubs off the blood.
Zammus arrives with several guards and Vahn explains what happened with Tekralus and such. He then sends a contingent of guards to check on Tekralus' previous residence, just in case.
After talking with Zammus, Vahn waits until he leaves and opens the trapdoor in the floor in the stage, just in case Tekralus only went a short distance under the stage. He catches sight of another trapdoor closing as Tekralus and the other guy drops down an escape tunnel. It's way too small for Zon, but Vahn tells him to patrol the area around the residence, where he thinks the tunnel comes out.
Vahn and Dro'van climb down a latter and into a 3ft tall tunnel. Vahn muffles the sound such that they can follow quietly. They both realize that there is a pit trap ahead of them. They manage to reset it and avoid the trap as Vahn creates a sound like they fell.
Zon is met by a couple of guards that were outside the residence while more were looking inside. He informs them that they think Tekralus is coming this way.
Vahn and Dro'van find a room with a trap door up and down but lots of supplies. Vahn unbolts the trap door above and cautiously opens the door and informs the templars of the situation. Dro'van goes ahead and Zammus and his guards go after him. Vahn advises Zon to get Ranis and get these supplies, then goes after the rest.
Dro'van detects a false rung which is the trigger for the trap, on his way down. He makes the templar guards aware of it as they light torches.
Vahn summons Damerin while discussing tracking/summoning options with Vizier.
Vizier and Damerin greet each other, having known one another back in Calidnay. Damerin listens as Vahn explains the situation with Tekralus. The only good thing about it is that if Tekralus, being Kalik's son, does successfully bring back Kalik's powers, he won't be a sorcerer king, just a major sorcerer.
Damerin mentions that he has heard of a "Sons of Kalik" group out there.
He also explains to us where Vizier is from, and that the summoning isn't all good. Vizier works for a very powerful demon who has been trying to collect on the sorcerer kings for millenia. He suspects that Vizier might slip something into the spell that may not have any effect for 50 years, but you never know.
Lots of discussions on strategies for fighting Tekralus.
Drew rolled about 3 dozen amazings tonight. He will receive no bonus xp from me.

GM Notes

  • Really enjoying Alternity.  I still want to tinker with it and make some tweaks but the base system is very good.
  • I thought the magic was underpowering but it was being used against the half giant.  That makes a difference.
  • Had a map of a theater and that worked well to use.
