At last, It Begins

August 2, 2012

We leave the ruins and realize a dust storm is heading our way. We decide the best course of action is to head for the village around House Ianto for shelter.

On the way to the village, Elendal notices some desert predators and some dangerous plant life. We will have to choose whether to risk the predators or go into the plants that the predators won't follow us into.

We decide to go for the creatures. They are Anakores and there are 5 of them. The jump up out of the ground surrounding us.

Battle Begins

Dro'van shoots his bow, short range, at #3 for 5W.

#1 and #2 attack Zon with their claws and total does 2W.

#3 attacks Dro'van and does 6W

#5 attacks Elendal and hits with an amazing. Does 3M 3W 3S

Zon uses his Trikal as a cleave against #1 and #2. 11W and 10W respectively. #2 is out of the battle.

Vahn and #4 are fighting...

Dro'van attacks #3 with his longsword for 6W

Zon uses his Trikal as a sledgehammer and destroys #1

#5 grabs Elendal and starts dragging him away.

#3 attacks Dro'van and missed.

Zon turns and lunges at #5 with his Trikal and does 11W

Dro'van dispatches #3 with his longsword with 11W

Vahn finishes off #4

#5 attacks Zon for 2W

Zon, being off balance a little, responds with a solid boot to the chest of #5 for 10S

After the combat, the sand storm caught up to us but we managed to push through to the village. We arrive at the inn, the Hurried Kank with the innkeeper named Alimoun. He only had enough portions of inix stew for all of us to only have one serving, Zon is disappointed, but he makes up for it with some bread and salted meats. He brings us all drinks. While we eat, he goes and prepares some rooms for us.

After the meal, Zon spends time making clots. He manages to make up 4 clots of the evening.

We all go to sleep and by morning we all have healed up.

[We discuss for quite a while what the motivation of the characters is and what we want to accomplish. It has been a couple of weeks since we played and I think we were all a bit disconnected with the story.]

Eventually, we decide to try to infiltrate the Ianto's house to steal and investigate the house's resources. The intention was to steal enough to buy enough supplies to help free all the newly grabbed slaves being prepped for sale.

Vahn checks the study, Dro'van checks the basement, and Elendal checks the bedrooms. Vahn doesn't find anything but a locked desk, Dro'van finds a secret entrance to a subbasement, and Elendal finds some rings and necklaces of value.

We all follow Dro'van down to the subbasement and find some caster's components and a robe and bracers that look very nice. Vahn and Elendal search around and find the safe. After some serious trap disarming and lock-picking, Elendal finds 10 pouches of 100sp each. The coins are newly minted and of a different design. It will have to be melted down into trade bars to spend it.

We head back upstairs to the study and Elendal opens it. We find the house seal that we can use to create an impression of it. When closing the drawer, we notice that the depth of the drawer is too short and when we look at it, we release a secret latch and find a very elaborate key that looks like it will open the doors in the ruins that couldn't be opened.

We leave and get to the slave pens to help get them free. We take them to the stash of all the supplies and send them on their way back to Tyr.

We head back to the ruins to see what's behinds door number one and two.

Inside the second level special door shows personal private quarters and personal lab. It obviously belongs to House Ianto. As Vahn is piling books and things into a bag he found, the bag never seems to be getting heavier. It was a bag of holding.

Inside the third level special door there is a man sitting at a table, writing. He's a human with dark tan skin with a red tinge to it. He says he's writing as fast as he can, then notices that Zon is not who he was expecting.

The other guys notice that the man and his desk and chair is surrounded by a summoning circle. The arcane skills of Vahn and Dro'van cannot tell that he is a defiler or preserver. He says his name is Vizier. He asks us to let him, but Dro'van wants to know who he is and what the Head of House Ianto is having him do here.

Zon gets impatient and just reaches out across the circle boundary and pulled him out of the circle. Vizier is very confused as to how he did that, but Zon doesn't understand that he did anything special. He, of course, didn't know what the significance of the circle was anyway.

GM Notes

  • Finally, we have started to get on track for my ideas.  Took a while to get there but I think the background stuff was worth it.
  • I can't believe we have only had three session in Alternity!  I'm really liking the system and seeing how it can be deadly but heroic at the same time.  I do like that combat is treated with a lot more respect!  Same as C&C, to some extent.
  • In combat, Zon is obviously a tank and it fits.,  When he hits, he hits hard and it will take something that's equally tough to stand up to him.  Not sure they will want to find out what that is!  They were ambushed but Dro'van still used his bow and did damage, which is a good idea in many ways.  I think the system helps mirror real life in that way.  Shoot 'em from a distance if you can!
  • I still need to slow down and give better descriptions.  I did update the wiki areas with how I see the Tyr region, which will help some.
  • I do have a much better idea of the area, though, and what I want to do.  So, that's nice.
  • I will eventually link to some of Vizier's origins.
