The Heist

December 11, 2014

The group is back in their base, doing their thing.  A few are in the Chop Shop with Cameron, helping him.  A few are in the garage, working on the cars.  Darryl is in the chapel.  And yet, they aren't.  A few see things.  As if standing and looking in a certain direction and certain way reveals a rune or a symbol.  It's not the same one for each of them but it's there.  They keep doing what they are doing but they can't help but notice the rune.

Slowly they break free of it and are back in the vault.  They realize that the thing in the sarcophagus was trying to show them other things, maybe make them do other things.  They are able to get it contained and put back into the sarcophagus.  Later research shows it could be Lillith but that doesn't seem right.  It is a being of power, though, and they are glad that they were able to contain it.

After that, they get ready for preparations to get to the auction and see what they can find out.  Cameron keeps practicing his spells, much to Abraham's chagrin and has even upped the ante in what he tries to do.  They have a plan and scope out where they can all watch and meet.  They also get special tracker rounds for Bobby's gun, so he can hopefully get it on the car and make it easy to follow.

Darryl goes into the place as Cameron's bodyguard.  As Abraham drops them off, he sees vampires everywhere but the others don't always see them, even if they know they are there.  They look at some of the other items for auction and Cameron is piqued by Marie Laveau's grimoire.  When the auction starts, he's able to use a spell to stop the other interested parties from bidding on it and get it.  Still a lot of money, fortunately they were able to bring enough to cover it.  Cameron is quite surprised at how cheap the main thing they wanted goes for.  He expected it to go for millions but it barely made it to the half million mark.  Cameron watches who got it and then gets word out to the others.  As the woman is leaving, Bobby beautifully shots a tracker onto the car, in the wheel well, from a thousand yards away.  They will have no problems following it without being seen.

The woman has her car take her to a corporate office.  The group figured out she is with the Chieron Group and a quick look at Task Force Valkyrie's papers shows that they are a hunter organization only in the loosest sense.  They grab supernatural creatures and use them to make whatever profit they can from them.  In their minds, they are helping out humanity, so why not profit at the same time?  A half hour later, she leaves, and the group decides to sneak into the place.

Mike gets inside the building and let's the others inside.  They manage to avoid the security guards and get up to the executive floors while Bobby again covers them from another building.  They are able to remove the wards, including what appeared to be a nasty trap in the elevator shaft, and get to the top floor.  They break into the office of the woman at the auction and find the vault.  Again, after Cameron pushes aside the magic, it is cracked open to reveal their prize.  And several others.  It seems the company already has several other items of power and the group takes them all.  They lock the vault and Cameron is able to release the magical wards back to cover the vault and they leave.

They not only got the grimoire of Marie Laveau and one of Ed Gein's skull bowls, but also two instruments of famous jazz musicians that have untapped power, and a few other artifacts.  They put them all in their new vault.

GM Notes

  • Wow.  Completely spaced these off this week!  Not sure why but didn't think of it until nearly a week later.
  • My players got me some really cool dice as an awesome gift!  I have to get pictures of them uploaded to FB yet.  Very cool gift!  Thanks, guys!
  • Again, my love of Alternity is shown in how this session played out.  There was no combat, only skill checks, and it was as tense a game as any with combat.  Setting off an alarm at the auction meant death for those inside.  Bob got lucky with Cameron's roll to cloud the mind of the other bidders and Patrick's Amazing result for the tracker made that part easy.  The best was the six Critical Failures by Brook, three nineteens and three twenties.  He had some Amazings as well but with so many CFs, those are easily forgotten.  All of this added up to some tense moments, waiting on the die, or seeing what they could do at the auction or in the building and I think it worked out so well!
  • I still need to do more prep, and have done so this week, but there always seems to be more.  I thought everything went well, though, and look forward to the next session!
